Great, it's raining as I step out of the airport. My hair is in a messy bun and the 8 hour flight has me exhausted. I can't stand the rain or the cold yet my mom has dragged me 4,000 miles away from my small hometown in Mississippi to this shit hole called England to be with this new guy she met who is half her age in both years and maturity. It's not that I'm not excited to see a new country but ripping me away from family and friends just for a guy is a shitty thing for her to do. She could have at least let my dad haves custody of me so I could be with my friends and at my school.
I slide my stuff into the back of his Mercedes Benz and sit there quietly while they chit chat. His name is John and he's a very wealthy man after inheriting his fathers fortune and business renting houses/flats. It must be nice not having to build your own business, that his dad snuffed it and left the whole thing to him. Finally, after an hours drive we pull into this big house in a small town called Alderly Edge.
"Welcome to my home, Sophie." John says as we all get out of the car. The house before me is quite big, made of stone with a black slate roof. The front door had high arches above it and a old wooden style door with large black hinges on it.
"It's very old looking," I comment as I drag my bag from the trunk of the car.
My mom sighs and looks up at the house with a smile. Her brown hair was thrown up into a messy bun and she still looked amazing. Me? I'm short but I have wide hips, my thin waist and large bust give me an hour glass figure but it doesn't look attractive to me. My height just makes me feel fat. My hair is long and black, it has natural thick curls and hangs to my waist. I catch a glimpse of myself in the car window and notice my black eyeliner has pretty much smeared off from the long plane ride. My large cobalt blue eyes stare back at me bloodshot and I look away.
"I wouldn't unpack," John says and my mother elbows him in the side.
I look at my mom confused until she explains herself. "You're going to this elite academy. It's a live on campus. It's about two hours from here but you can come home on the weekends." She smiles slightly. "I think you will love it."
"I can't believe you." I say and walk past her into the house.
"Sophie, it's what's best for you. It is the best academy in England! Do you know what kind of opportunities this will give you? You should be grateful!" She scolds me.
"Whatever. Pawn me off on some school just so you can be a teenager again with your new rich boy toy." I said and looked at John. "Can I at least see the room I'll be spending weekends in?"
"Yes." He walks over to a button on the wall and presses it. "Henry, please come take Ms. Sophie to her room." He releases the button and turns back to me. "You have an hour before the car comes to take you to High Royal Academy."
I leave my suitcase at the door and walk up stairs following Henry. He's a middle aged man with greying brown hair and he's short. He doesn't speak at all as he leads me up a narrow staircase off to the right side of the house. The room he shows me is small but every single wall is a bookcase and the window has a bed built in it and it looked over the huge pool in the backyard. Why would this country need a pool? It's always cold and rainy.
I head back down to the foyer to where my mom is standing. After kissing her cheek and her telling me to behave, I leave the house. I run past the waiting car as fast as I can away from the house. I hear my mother screaming after me but I keep on. After turning down several streets the houses become smaller and closer together until eventually the streets are lined with houses all connected to each other. Just like the houses you see in movies and on tv, their front doors open straight to the sidewalk.
I slow my pace as I make my way into a small town. It's going dark as I pass a group of guys around my age standing outside of a pub called The Three Lions."I haven't seen you around here before, love." A tall brown haired boy smiled at me.
"I'm new," I said as I looked around. The red haired boy beside him smirked at me and it made me nervous. I know how boys my age are especially with vulnerable girls, they take advantage and make you feel tiny.
"You should let us show you around. This place has some hidden beauty. Like you. " The red headed boy said.
"Like me?" I asked, tilting my head in confusion.
"You've been hiding from me, love." He said and his friends snickered.
"Way to whoo the lady," one of the other guys said.
"Come on, I'm Kane by the way." The red headed boy said as he walked over to me.
"I'm Sophie."
"Nice to meet you, Sophie." Kane said and slipped his arm around my waist. I blushed and followed the smirking boys down a dirt path behind the pub.
The dirt path was long and winding through the trees, we walked a few minutes until it opened up to a small pit in the ground.
Kane smirked at me when I looked around. The rest of the boys had formed a half circle around me and my stomach dropped...
