The last day of school camp. Dinner had been served early because the 'students were tired' but they are never tired.
They had all congregated in groups. All the 'cool kids' were outside taking up the whole veranda.
Paige was in her cabin with her two best friends and the two boys from the next cabin over. 'This is exactly how school camp should be' Paige thought as she watched her friends laughing on the beds whilst the guys were 'acting' on the bench.
Amidst the laughter she heard her phone vibrate and lunged to snatch it up quickly. Her hand clamped around it just before Sean.
She glanced at the caller ID before saying hello. It read MUM. Hello she said into her crappy cell phone. Everyone was yelling things in the background but Paige could still hear how distraught her mothers voice sounded.
Something was wrong, she turned towards the window and gazed out at the last rays of sunlight hitting the hill.
Then she turned around abruptly and repeated her mother. 'What messages? What Car accident?'. Everyone in the room went silent.
Paige's jaw and phone dropped to the floor in unison. She couldn't believe it, 'it isn't true, there's been a mistake' her thoughts bargained with herself. She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. She was not going to cry in front of anyone.
Paige reached down, picked up her phone and sprinted out of the cabin. She could feel everyone of her friends eyes on her.
