Madness

More tears plummeted down my cheek as I continued to think about it. It didn't seem quite true yet, but something inside of me kept growing. Divorce. Why my parents? I could hear my dad yell once more from the room across the hall.

"Stop thinking about it, Mia," I quietly said to myself.

I clenched my fists and squinted my eyes as that feeling grew inside of me. What it was, I didn't know.

Suddenly, anger broke loose, and what was inside of me burst into flames. I shredded my drawings to pieces. All of my hard work, gone.

Immediately a deep sadness fell upon me, so I sat in the far corner of my room and wept. Madness. No matter what I tried to think of, that word kept popping into my head.

Madness. Madness. It was overwhelming me. My family just moved here to California this year. This is the result of my dad's stupid job. It's already hard having to move to a new school with no friends, and now this? I feel like God hates me.

They had been arguing a lot lately. I should've seen it coming, but it was still hard to believe. Divorce. I hated that word.

My dog, Stacy, walked into the room. As she lay down beside me, I wrapped my arms around her. For some reason, I always hugged her when I was in need of comfort. She seems to be the only one that understands me.

Madness. The word kept coming back. Madness. Madness. I sat there with my arms wrapped around my dog. Then the devastating thought struck. Why me?

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of my own cry. I was so deprived of sleep that I could barley open my eyes. I tossed and turned last night in desperation to get at least half an hour of sleep. I probably didn't manage  to get even that much sleep!

I reluctantly trudged out of bed and headed to the bathroom. It was Monday, and I really hoped that mom would let me stay home, today. You know, after everything that happened the night before.

When I entered the kitchen, no one was there! Dad wasn't reading the newspaper, and mom wasn't making breakfast.

"Oh," I thought to myself. "I forgot that I don't have a normal family anymore."

Although things were going to be different after the divorce, something just didn't seem right.

I scoured the house in search of any sign of life. No one was in the house with me! Not even Stacy!!

"What's going on here," I said out loud.

I began to have a strange feeling. It was more like a sensation. I had never felt anything like it before.

Suddenly, I heard a knock on the door.

"The police?.....Why are the police here?," I wondered.

Without even thinking about it, I answered the door. There stood two policeman. Standing on the right was a man. He was short and stout with darker skin. To the left of him stood a taller woman with brown hair, and stunning eyes.

Without even saying a word, the man pulled out a gun and pointed it directly at my head. He motioned me to step forward. I saw the other policeman pull out a device that looked like a taser, maybe. It looked like something you would see in a sci-fi movie.

Everything went black.
