I pulled my hood farther on my head and kept walking on the damp sidewalk as the sky began to get dimmer. I told myself not to look at any of the cars passing by and to not make eye contact. I rubbed my fingers around in the pockets of my hoodie. I felt the rough paper of the money in my pocket; I looked up slightly, not enough to show my face but just to look where I was going. I could tell that the coffee shop was a few blocks away.
The sound of raindrops hitting the pavement was peaceful but I stayed on alert and hoped I would arrive soon.
A car passed by and I counted 22 cars have passed on my way there so far. I looked up completely and stopped in front of the small brick building, I love to go here to think and to take my mind off of life.
I pulled the glass door open and the fresh smell of coffee was overwhelming yet comforting. The bell signaled my arrival and I walked toward the front counter. I pulled my hood of and waited for the lady in front of me to get her coffee and bagel before I stepped up to the front of the line.
Mary was working there today and her slightly gloomy face brightened when she saw me. "Oh! hey Sam." She greeted politely. I faked a smile and waved. "The usual" I said. I gave her the money for my drink and she soon disappeared.
She arrived with a cup in one hand and my change in the other I avoided contact as she gave me my change and I just put it in the tip container. I took my drink and took a seat at a table in the corner. The lighting was dim and it was the perfect time to just read.
I pulled out my favorite book I have been reading lately and opened up to the page I left off on. Just as I was gonna read I heard the beautiful noise that made my heart feel peace. I looked up at the counter and there he was. Finn... Finn always had that beautiful smile on his face and I loved his laugh that made my heart flutter.
I closed my book and yawned as I stretched out my arms and legs (rather loudly I might add). Finn must have noticed because he looked over to my direction. We made eye contact and my breath hitched. His eyes were like the color of the ocean after a storm, I could stare into those eyes for days if possible. He wore a confused look and he looked over at Mary and they started another conversation.
I opened my book once again and hoped I could just read in peace. After a few minutes I put my book down and sipped on my warm and cozy jasmine tea. A nearby sound of someone clearing there throat made me jump.
I put my hand over my heart and looked to my left to see Finn looking at me with that confused face he had earlier. "Why are you sitting there alone?" he asked in a welcoming tone. I squirmed in my chair and tried to speak but the words didn't leave my throat.
I looked into his eyes again and saw how truly beautiful they were the beautiful blue and grey flakes made me feel butterflies.
"I-I l-like to be alone" I stuttered. He cocked his head to the side and I just looked down at my book. It was silent and I was getting really uncomfortable, he cleared his throat then spoke "do you wanna sit with me?"
My face grew hot and I stood up almost immediately "n-no I should just be going I hafto uhh..." he just sat there. "I gotta go" I stated hurriedly, I grabbed my book and stuffed it in my bag and grabbed my tea and turned the other way to exit the shop.
As I was gonna walk away when I felt a hand grab my wrist. I hated when people touched me, I couldn't stand it, my eyes widened and I did the only thing I could do.
I ripped my hand from his grip and dropped my tea on the floor in the process. I just stood there in shock. All eyes were on me, it felt like there stares were burning holes in me. I started to walk back slowly and the next thing I know I'm running out of the shop.
