Prologue

"It's not fair!" Sarah exclaimed, glancing around the endless labyrinth. The T.V. was blaring, popcorn was popping, and sleep was creeping up on Matt (my boyfriend) and I. The Labyrinth was one of my all-time favorites, but being snuggled under blankets and breathing in the fresh mint scent of Matt made it hard to stay awake.

We both knew we had an English test tomorrow and an essay for Social Studies due. To hell with it, we thought. Matt was leaving for his trip to Washington this Sunday, and today was Thursday. I had to use the time I had with him.

Matt was every girl's dream; muscular body, boyish smile, irristable touch, and beautiful personality. We'd been together for 2 years now. I felt like the luckiest girl alive.

I slowly fell asleep with the feeling of suspense, like something bad was about happen.

And that night turned out to be one of the worst nights of my life.

The piercing feeling of fire crept all over my body as I lay in the fold-out couch in Matt's living room. I tried to scream and kick and do everything
I could to stop the feeling, but I couldn't make a single sound. It was terrifying. At the time, I had never experienced a dream so.... traumatizing.

But that was then.
And this now.
