"Everyone, this is Brooklynn, my new neighbor." Emella introduces me. All her friends seem unenthusiactic about me.

Except one. This one boy was tall and light-skinned, almost yellow. His black hair was cut in a mohawk. He had braces and a little faded mustaches and beard. Puerto Rican, I guess. He was staring at me with this small smile that was adorable. It made me blush, and guys don't normally make me blush, so I look down so no one can see me. When I look up, his smile grew wider, showing all his teeth and braces. Then I notice something else, he looks like Winnie-the-Pooh. I feel attracted to him like a magnet. Which normally doesn't happen.

I finally pull my gaze away from him to evaluate the others. The next one to catch my eye was a guy that looked similar to Winnie-the-Pooh except he was a little more muscular, a little darker and shorter than Winnie-the-Pooh. When I read his face it said 'Why are you here? You don't belong.' As did the rest of their faces. Except Winnie-the-Pooh's face. Still I felt out of place.

"Hi," Winnie-the-Pooh breaks the silence. "I'm Dawaun." He held out his hand for me to shake.

"Nice to meet you, Dawaun." I almost whisper. His hand is so soft. I almost bring it to my cheek because it's so soft. Then I remember, I don't know these people, they might think I'm weird so I let go of his hand.

"I'm Ariano," his look alike speaks next. "And Dawaun's brother."

"Younger brother" Dawaun cut in.

Ariano just rolls his eyes and nudges the girl standing next to him. With a loud huff, she steps foward and barely audible says "Hello Brooklynn, I'm Perila."

I smile and then turn toward the guy she was now staring at, and from what I could see, pleading with her eyes to go next. After a few minutes, he clears his throat and says, "I'm Emerson, and Perila's older brother."

"Hi." I half smile at him.

The last person to introduce themself is this girl standing next to Dawaun and had been staring at me like she hates me. Like I'm the friggin' devil.

"Now look here, Brittany." This chick.

"It's Brooklynn." I correct her immediately.

"Whatever," Strike one. " I run this shit. Always have, always will."

"Is that a challenge, threat or promise." She is going to be so fun to mess with. I have no plans of running anything. I'm just here til I'm 18.

"A promise boo." I hold back a chuckle. "Now we don't go anywhere, do anything without my approval." She think she God.

"We as in," I point to every single teen standing here in front of me. "Ya'll six. Or we as in 'We the people'?" A few of them try not to laugh this time.

"Us six." She glares at me now. Oh my gosh this is just too easy."Anyways, my name is Veda Johnson. Just stay out of my way. Understand?"

"Completely. Don't start none, won't be none." My favorite quote.

She gives me one last long, cold stare then waltz over to the closest tree, whips out her phone and starts typing crazy fast. Guess I'm the next 'trending topic' or whatever.

"Now that we're all aquainted and what-not, lets go." Emerson boomed.

I whip my head and stare at Emella in worried horror, "What are we doing?" I wore skinny jeans, my old but most favored tan Timbs and a tan hoodie. My hair is contained underneath a beautiful multi-brown scarf my mother brought me back from Africa once.

"We're going into the forest to do dumb stuff. You scared of the dark aren't you?" Emella teased.

"Not since I turned 7." I love the forest. My friends and I always used to go out in the woods and climb trees and built forts. One time we got lost and spent the night there. My boy Kaden fed us acorns and nuts. He said if squirrels can survive on em so can we. After that we researched things we could eat. We also Googled how to make weapons to kill animals. I still cannot make a fire though, so I just bring a lighter. I get all excited. "Which way?"

"Come on, I'll lead." I freeze for a second then all of my adrenaline flows through me. What is he doing to me?

"Oh. Kay." I manage out, making it two words. I had to remind my legs to move.

"So you lived in the city right?" We're far ahead of the group by now.

"Huh?" I feel stupid the second I say it. "Oh, no. I'm from Buffalo, New York state."

"Oh, that's cool too. What made you move down here?"

I swallow hard and take a deep breath before answering. "Uh, my mom died and my aunt was the one to take me in."

"I'm so sorry to hear that." He sounds genuinely sorry for me and it touches my heart.

"It's alright," I didn't wanna ruin my first converstaion with him with my mom's death, but I had this strange feeling to get his number. "I just wish I had someone to text ot hang out with instead of sulking around my house thinking about my mom."

"I think we can fix that." He pulls out his phone. "Here put your number in." He hands me the phone.

"Uh, Dawaun." He looks confused then understands. He takes it back, unlocks the phone then gives it back. "Thanks." I put my number in then hand it back. We stop right outside the woods.

"You sure you wanna go in there? I mean you don't have to. I can just take you to the pond while the other-" I put my finger over his lips to shut him up. Why am I so flirty with him? He's just a guy.

"Shhh, Dawaun. It sounds to me you're scared to get a little dirty."

"Never." He says then smiles. I remove my finger from his lips.

"Then I hope you're ready for an adventure." I say while turning and heading into the woods.
