“Life”
We Wake up everyday blessed with a new life. We shiver in the bitter-cold breeze of the morning as we inhale the breath of life our creator bestows upon us. We feel that insatiable desire to live and so we set on to seek what is needed for it to be better as we wake up the next day. And this is the very reason why we can’t appreciate life as we try to get the most of it.
People around the world have different philosophies about the well of life - its origins, why and how it formed. We have the oldest questions that have been spinning around with the Earth for thousands of years. Questions such as, why are we here? Where do we come from? What is life? Most of us, look to a creator. Well, the fact that it sprung up, someone has to be responsible. While some, on the other hand, look to traces or clues engraved in nature; leading them to conclusions and theories about how it formed. We call this one “science”. And when it comes to science, something, rather than someone, is responsible for our existence. Well, whatever our ways are in trying to make sense of what’s around us, since we live in a world of speculations, we will certainly find it a challenge to seek out the absolute truth while some may wonder why we have to search for answers. The fact that we’re humans, its understandable enough that we always tend to set forth on an inquisitive journey. As a writer once quoted “For man, mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man's desire to understand.” My point is, there is no absolute description of life. We describe it in accordance to how we perceive it. We measure things with our ways of measuring. There are no standard rules of measurement nature has provided for us to explain things. It’s all on us and the way we see it.
As we continue to run around and seemingly squander our lives looking for answers to our existence, trying to satisfy our craving for knowledge as we feel that rumbling in our brains similar to that of the rumbling of our stomachs, always longing for that tasty treat we call knowledge, we often miss yet another great thing. A thing that’s always left out, a thing called “appreciation”. Now the beauty of appreciation is that it does not require a certain level of knowledge. It just simply acknowledges something for what it is. And life, in its entirety, is one great thing to appreciate. We don’t have to waste so much time in seeking out answers. Simply appreciating life as we know it is already a life well spent. The fact that it took a lot of complicated processes for it to form is already a beauty. Those guided processes that took place billions of years ago during the birth of our universe led to this glorious yet humble thing we call life.
So the next time we find ourselves preoccupied with questions, or just simply trying to make a living, we should take time to at least put our hands to our chests and feel that beating. For one day it will stop and when it happens we won’t have another chance to appreciate it, to personally define it. Life is just not worthwhile when left undefined and unvalued.
