The man stood still in his expensive black suit. Not a thing out of place. Perfect, clean, and sharp. Just how the organization liked it. His face was nothing special. You wouldn't notice him, just another face in the crowd.
The man he stood behind was a seasoned man with a thick grey beard and peppered hair. His face was worn but you could still see how handsome he once was. Unlike his present company, he wore a loose patterned shirt and shorts. He no longer cared what He looked like. Those days were long gone. His only source of company were the ones he trained and the occasional black suite visitor.
The older man took a swig of whiskey, no longer feeling the burn it use to give. Most days he just wanted to be left alone, he wanted out. But just as quickly as that thought entered his mind, he remembers why he stays.
The chameleon spoke, His voice précised and clear. "She seems to be doing quite well, better than we expected."
The man scoffed, taking another swig. "She's the best and you all damn well know it."
Another reason why he hated them. All so cold, they tried to be so secretive. He could read them all like a book.. He was trained to.
"Yes well the best she may be but she's a loose canon, Burch."
Burch didn't say anything, Eliana wasn't a wild card. She was just stronger than the others. He knew it and that's why he picked her. He didn't make her the best, he just helped her get there. The company was only afraid of something they couldn't control. They already knew about her dealings behind the companies back.
The wall spoke again "We won't terminate her Burch, we see the potential you saw in her. We just can't afford another loss."
Burch nodded his head.
"Good, glad we understand one another. We know she became a risk when you sent her on the Preskovi assignment."
Anger bubbles inside Burch. Oh, how he wanted to kill every one of them. They weren't afraid of anything but her, afraid of what she would do if she decided no more.
"You aren't worried about a risk. You're afraid that she came back with a mind of her own."
He looked him square in the eyes. Noting with satisfaction how the black orbs glinted with affirmation. With fear.
Burch smirked, It was always the same thing. It had been for him, they were just oh so happy that a bullet in the right place took him out of the game. He chose to train instead of another bullet in his head. He knew they wouldn't let him retire. He had been working for them for a long time, longer than most. Leading him to believe that bullet was a bullet of their own. And if he had been any less of a trained fighter and killer he bet is sore ass he wouldn't be here today.
He sighed stretching out his old wounded leg. "Don't you worry your pretty little head cap'n, you have nothing to worry about here. Everything is still sunshine and daisies."
The other man swiftly turned around heading for the door. "It better be or its your ass on the line."
Burch lit a cigar "Hey I'm not the who lost Lamia."
The man's face split in to pure hated he stormed out of the room. Walking down the always with Burch's cold hearty laughter following him.
