Chapter 2 - I'm Supposed to Be Happy

LILY VALDEZ

     I woke up feeling excited. Why wouldn't I? Today is the day Alexander and I are supposed to date.

     I felt giddy as I ate breakfast with my mom. Mom seems to eye me as we ate.

    "Lily, are you ok?" Mom asked me.

    "I'm fine. It's just that me and Alexander are having our date today."

      Mom studied me, "Well it seems that my little girl is all grown up now. Just be back before eight in the evening, because remember, we're going to Camp Half-Blood tomorrow." Mom said as she took her plate and placed it in the sink.
      
     "Get going now. And don't forget to visit your Aunt Piper. I'm sure she'll help you dressing up for your date today."

     "Okay mom." I replied. I placed my plate in the sink and went outside and walked towards Aunt Piper's house, which was only two blocks away.

      I knocked on the door and five seconds later Aunt Piper's son, Jeydon, opened the door.

      "Hi! Is your mom home?" I asked Jeydon.

      "Yeah, want me to call her?"

      "Yeah. Tell her I need help on dressing up."

      "Okay. Come in." I went inside their house. It was huge. I heard rumors that Annabeth, Alexander and Adana's mom, built and designed most of the houses in New Rome when they moved in. I guess she designed an extra large house for the Son of Jupiter and Daughter of Aphrodite.
  
       Jeydon gestured for me to sit on one of the mahogany chairs, then he went in the kitchen to call his mom. I studied the paintings on the right wall and I remembered my mother's story of how Arachne, the mother of all spiders, was single-handedly defeated by Annabeth under the Old Rome. Even when I was little, I was always inspired by my mother's story of The Prophecy Of Seven. I always dream of becoming like them and maybe tomorrow I'll get my chance-.

         "Hello Lily! What can I help you?" Aunt Piper said, waking me up from my daydream.

         "Um... can you please help me wear something for my date today?"

         "Oh, a date! Who is the lucky boy you're going to date? Let me guess, it's Alexander, isn't it?"

         "Yes, it's him. Can you help me please?"

         "Of course my dear Lily. Come, let's go upstairs and I'll pick something for you."

          We went upstairs and seven minutes later, I was wearing a red dress, the skirt up to my knees.

          "There, that's perfect. Run along now. I still have an errand to do." She told me as we descended down the stairs.

          "Ok! Bye Aunt Piper!" I replied.
 
          I went out of their house and walked towards the Cafe me and Alexander are supposed to meet.

          I sat on one of the chairs. I waited for maybe ten minutes, until I got impatient and decided to go to their house and see if there's something wrong.

          I arrived at their house and I called his name. A moment later he went out aaaannnnd... he looked pretty shaken up.

         "Uh, hi." He began, "Sorry if I didn't attend our date at the Cafe, cause mom scolded me for losing my little sister, Adana, and now she tasked me to find her before evening, so sorry. I hope you'll forgive me. Our date has to be cancelled."
   
           I felt like I've been slapped ten times with a hydraulic piston and then thrown upward by a nuclear bomb. I felt tears going to my eyes. What he said was the worst thing that happened to me, in my whole life. Of course, we can date some other time, but I looked forward to this with enthusiasm Now, all of my energy left me.
      
          Without saying another word, I ran to my house, straight to my room and covered myself in a blanket and cried for hours until I fell asleep.

            In my dream, I was in dark cavern with someone in a cage. With a start, I realized that it was Adana, Alexander's sister. She was wearing pajamas and a sweater. A definite proof that she was kidnapped. Adana wouldn't go outside with that outfit.

            I tried to grab her arm but my hand passed through her like she's just my shadow. I tried to yell at her but my voice won't work. I just stood there, and watched how she silently cried and cried on the cage's floor. She looked battered- like she was tortured... Adana is a strong willed girl, so she must really have been tortured if she was crying like this.
        
            Then suddenly, a giant man materialized in front of the cage. I couldn't see his face but I could make out two, muscular arms, but his legs were shrouded with mist. When he spoke, his voice was so horrible and frightening, that I almost cried collapsed from fright.

            "Cry tiny creature! So I can have the satisfaction of knowing that my jailer's descendant is in pain. Your family will try to save you, but they cannot surpass my power. I will slay them, for my jailer slew my family and then bound me in chains. But that happened eons ago, they've forgotten about me, so the magic that contained broke, and now I will unleash all of my power to destroy my jailer and his descendants. I have forseen all of this, and now I shall have my long awaited revenge."

      He laughed and the cavern shook, with Adana still crying in the dark. Then suddenly the giant tensed. He looked directly at me and chains appeared at my neck, choking me until I couldn't breathe-

I woke up screaming. I could still feel the Giant's chain around my neck. I steadied my breathing. Thankfully, my parents wasn't home, 'cause if they did, Mom would probably be in my room right now.

But, if there is something that I know, it was: Adana being held captive by some Giant; and that Giant wants to kill all of the descendants of his jailer;  and the last but not the least, the Giant can predict the future.

My throat still hurts, as if the Giant's chain was still around my neck. Funny, I never had any dreams like this 'till now. Maybe I'm going to ask Mom about it when she and Dad returns home. I looked at my window and remembered that tonight would be the Special Lantern Festival of New Rome. 

I shrugged. My clothes would be okay for this occasion. And I really need to forgive Alexander. I went downstairs, went outside and locked the house.
