The moon shone softly on the uneven cobblestone streets, the stones glinting in the light. There should have been streetlamps, but for some reason they were all out that night. As the young woman hurried along towards her home, she didn’t mind. She liked walking by the light of the stars; it was peaceful.

She pulled her coat tighter around herself to keep out the chill. In her brief moment of distraction, her foot caught on a cobble, and she tripped. Crying out, she dropped what she’d been carrying, reaching out her hands to stop herself.

Her hands hit the ground, sending a jerk through the rest of her body as it followed. Face inches from the hard, cold ground, she closed her eyes and let out a breath. Why is it always me? she wondered. Pushing herself off the ground, she sighed and went to work picking up all she’d dropped.

A hand appeared beside hers, and she jumped, looking up. Next to her was a woman, her brilliant red hair lit like a flame in the moon’s light. The woman smiled sweetly at her, her green eyes bright, with a hint of something the girl could not quite place reflecting in their depths.

“Need some help, my dear?” she asked, her voice sounding loud in contrast to the silent night. For some reason, the girl didn’t trust her.

“No thank you,” she said curtly, picking up the last of her things. “I’ve got it.” She stood up, her arms full again, and the woman beside her straightened.

“Of course,” came the too nice reply. “I can see that.” The woman’s head tilted slightly to one side, her pale skin shining like porcelain. “Tell me, what’s a pretty girl like you doing walking home alone at this hour?”

“That’s none of your business,” the girl snapped in return. To her surprise, the woman chuckled.

“Ah, but I’m afraid it is.” The woman blinked, and when her eyes opened, the pupils had formed slits, almost like a cat’s. With a short gasp, the girl took a step back, causing the woman to chuckle again. With another blink, her eyes returned to normal, and the girl almost wondered if she’d imagined it. “Now, darling... why don’t we go somewhere a bit more private?”

The girl shook her head. “W-Who are you?”

The woman smiled. “You’ll find out soon enough. For now, all you need to know is that I’m the woman who is here to save you.”

The girl frowned, her eyebrows knitting together. “Save me?” She laughed nervously, taking another step backwards. “I don’t think so.”

“Sadly, you don’t have a choice in the matter.” Her voice hardened. “You’re coming with me.” A shiver ran down the girl’s spine as she looked into the woman’s cold eyes. Her heart picking up it’s pace, she shook her head again.

“No.” And with that, she turned and ran. She heard a sinister chuckle sound from behind her, and she forced herself to run faster. Her hood flew off, blonde curls streaming behind her.

She rounded a corner and slid to a halt. There, in front of her, leaning casually against the wall, was the woman. The girl’s eyes went wide as the woman looked up from examining her nails. The girl threw a quick glance over her shoulder, unsure how it was possible for her to be there.

The woman smiled and stepped towards her, forcing her to take a step back. “Much more private, don’t you agree? No one to hear you scream.”

The girl glanced around at the deserted alley she’d run into, searching for something to use as a weapon. Her eyes snapped back to the woman as she laughed.

“Don’t bother, sweetheart,” she said as she walked closer to her. The girl tried to move, but she seemed frozen in place. The woman stopped in front of her and smiled, her pupils once again forming slits. “We’re going to have so much fun.”

The girl tried to move again, but she couldn’t even blink. The woman’s smile grew, and she leaned forward, whispering into her ear. “Welcome to my world, Prudence.” The girl’s eyes widened, hearing her name. How did this woman know who she was? “Don’t worry,” she whispered again. “You won’t remember in the morning.” The woman turned her head, her breath hot against Prudence’s throat. She gulped, then screamed as she felt the fangs slide into her neck.

====================

All right guys, this is a new one for me. *hides face* I know it's under Vampire and Romance, and I'm embarassed to be writing a story under either of those categories, but this is an idea that's been eating away at me. It's not actually going to be a cliche, though, so I'm happy about that. More likely to deny a few cliches, actually xD Anywho, let me know what you think of this beginning, eh? I don't know when I'll get around to writing the first chapter, seeing as I'm a bit tied up with OoF at the moment, but as soon as I get the time, if I get a good response, I'll try and get it written :3

Love you guys! Don't be shy xx
