Chapter 2

As I walked through the school, the only thing that I could think of was how big the school was, and how many students there were. I mean, I had gone to Freshman Immersion Day over the summer, but seeing how big the school was, and knowing that I didn't have a single friend in within a hundred mile radius... It made high school seem like a task that would be quite difficult to conquer indeed.

I shook off my doubts and glanced at my schedule. With relief I noted that it was Honors English. I vaguely remembered where that was. Maybe I wasn't doomed!

Well, I say not doomed. Maybe that was overly optimistic. It did take me about ten minutes to find the classroom. At least my english teacher, Mrs. Rowell, seemed pretty relaxed about lateness. Surprisingly, I wasn't the last person to come to class. There was one person who got there later than me. For some reason, she looked familiar, although I just couldn't place it.

Once everyone had sat down, I glanced around at all of my classmates. The girl who had come to class later than me was drawing a lot of stares. It was easy to see why. She looked different from everyone else. Her most noticeable feature was her hair. It was cut along her jaw, perfectly framing her face. Also it was an unusual silvery-blonde. I'd never seen anything like it.

Most of the students grew bored of the girl and her exotic appearance fairly quickly, and went back to listening to Mrs. Rowell's speech about what we were going to be doing in the class. I couldn't keep from thinking about the girl. She was really beautiful, with clear, pale skin, high cheekbones, and the brightest blue eyes that I'd ever seen. She looked like someone who would be the heroine of a novel. She looked like a heroine that I'd  write as for one of my many books. Suddenly, I realised, as though a puzzle piece had snapped into place in my memories. I knew why she looked so familiar. She looked exactly like the main character in the story I'd been working on the night before.

I turned this new thought over and over in my head. What a coincidence that I just happened to have someone who looked like my character in my new high school. That was cool. I was so lost in my own thoughts that I hardly noticed when Mrs. Rowell said we could pack up. When the bell rang, I was jolted back to reality and started packing everything up as fast as possible. Since there was a block schedule at Santa Clara High School, I had homeroom next, then brunch. As I walked toward the general direction of my homeroom class, I was startled by someone tapping me on the shoulder. I whirled around, only to see the silver haired girl standing behind me.

"Um, sorry," she said, quietly, "I didn't mean to startle you." She had a really pretty voice, sort of high pitched, quiet and gentle. I gave a small smile and shook my head.

"Don't worry about it," I replied. She gave a slight smile in return.

"Is there anything I can help you with?" I asked. She nodded, a sheepish smile spreading across her face.

"Yeah, I came here later than everyone else, so I didn't get a map of the school. Could you tell me where F-8 is?" I nodded.

"I'd be happy to. Actually, I'm going there too," I said. She let out a relieved sigh. We started walking to homeroom together, talking about all our classes, the books we read, movies we'd seen, and TV shows we watched. Before I knew it we were standing in front of the classroom. Before we walked into the classroom, she turned to me.

"What did you say you're name was?" she asked.

"Kayleigh, but most people call me Kay. What's yours?" She smiled.

"I'm Aileen, but you can call me Aylah."

Hey guys! So what do you think of Aylah? Also please remember that if you have any suggestions I'd be happy to take them. Thanks!!!!
