                                                             Chapter 1:

I remember my first summer in California, Hawthorn California that is. The town was next to Los Angeles, and right next to the ocean. That beach next to our hotel was amazing, and busy, every Saturday it would be packed with hundreds of teenagers eager to ride the waves.
Surfing was the name of the game happening in California. That summer was the one that started it all. The summer I met the most fascinating guy I would ever to meet.
It all started the third week i was in Hawthorne. It was also the first time I had built up the nerve to finally lay on the beach. Sadly, I had yet to make any friends so I was on that big crowded beach alone. That's when I saw him. Carrying one of those giant boards out to sea, and on his way checking out every girl that was in his path. He was so stunningly beautiful that a small sigh popped out of my mouth uncontrollably. He had long dirty blonde hair and a white t-shirt on that had a few car grease stains on the front of it.
I got up, straightened out my striped bathingsuit and followed him out into the aqua blue water. I mean, I was deathly afraid of the ocean, and all my family knew that, but something about that fellow made me weak in the knees. So I did what I had to do.
Once I got into to the water, that was crashing down on my calf's, I realized that I had never stepped into the ocean before. I mean 17 years old and not even gone into the ocean? what a foolish thing to pull off. By the time I was in the water, that boy was already fifteen feet out, paddling his board as he went along.
As I looked along the beach I realized that I wasn't the only girl, and many of them were watching him too. I fixed my golden curls, and walked much deeper into the water. the waves crashed into me and I realized that I shouldn't have been as far out as I was. The water was now up to my chest and i was getting nervous. That ocean seemed to pull me into the vast horizon and I was drifting outwards. I couldn't feel the bottom anymore.
"Help! Somebody Help!" I yelled out quickly. "HELP!"
Suddenly I saw him. He was quickly swimming towards me, his board still under him. I started to sink under a few times, and I got so tired I couldn't do anything anymore. sleep.sleep.sleep. i remembered thinking.
"Lady? Hey lady? Are you alright?" I woke up abruptly, choking up some salt water and seeing the man in front of me, wiping my hair out of my face as he worriedly looked down at me.
"Gee, what happened?" I asked getting up a bit.
"You were about to drowned that's what! Have you ever swam before? he said, wrapping a towel around me. "What were you doing out there?"
"I think, uh i was trying to get your attention." I said quietly.
He laughed and i got to see his handsome smile. "Well, that worked, didn't it. Whats your name?"
"Uh, oh. I'm Lana." i said quickly back.
"Well, Lana, would you like to go to the burger shack down the road. you must be hungry from all that drowning."
"why sure,"  I said as he got up and helped me up too. We got up and we ended up taking my parents red t-bird, because he didnt have a car of his own yet. We got into the car and he smiled at me wiping his shining hair off his face. "Oh, I'm Dennis by the way."
