After Tanya finished harassing Annie with several questions that could make even a nun blush, she decided that getting out of her apartment for a few hours was exactly what she needed. Changing into to a pair of jeans and a sweater, she grabbed her purse and her laptop and headed out the door to go to the her favorite café and get some work done.
*********
Arriving at the Cool Bean Café, she ordered her usual large Americano and took a seat by the window at the front. She placed her laptop on the table and tried to decide if she was going to get any work or if she was just going to procrastinate and put it off until tomorrow.
"Large Americano for Lannie?"
Glancing up, Annie looked around and noticed none of the other patrons going to collect the drink. Sighing, she walked up to the counter, grabbed her drink, and muttered a half-hearted thanks. She returned to her table and noticed her cellphone had lit up with a notification, checking it she saw it was a text messenger from an unknown number. As soon as she read the text, a smile danced across her face and her heart fluttered.
*Hey there stranger.
Annie's eyes twinkled as she remembered that she had called him stranger as she left the store. Taking a couple of minutes, she thought of some witty response that could show how intelligent and humorous she was.
*Who's this? ..... hitting send she reread her reply, crud that was awful, Annie thought.
It was too late to take it back now. Overthinking again, she wondered if she replied too quickly. Was their a certain time limit that you're supposed to wait before texting back? Did she seem desperate? Dropping her head into her hands, she let out a shaky laugh and rubbed her hands across her face. Sitting there dejectedly, she was so spaced out that she almost didn't hear the buzzing coming from the object of her distress. Snapping her head back up, she grabbed the phone in haste ,almost knocking her coffee over in the process, and unlocked it.
*I'm not that forgettable am I? Haha. I was hoping we could meet up sometime this week, maybe Friday. There's this cool thai place I know.Grinning like a madwoman, Annie was about to reply when another text came in.
*That is if you like thai foof
*foof
*FOOD
*I'm embarrassed.
Giggling to herself, she carefully typed out her response and made sure there weren't any mistakes before sending her agreement to the plan of thai food on Friday. She waited for a response and read it with the giddiness of a kid in Disneyland.
*Great I'll see you then
Putting her phone down, Annie leaned back in her chair and threw her hand up above her head. Smile widening as the seconds ticked by, she sighed with happiness while the other people in the café looked at the strange girl who kept fidgeting with nervousness and breaking out into laughter sporadically for the past five minutes. Crazy girl.
************
Skipping up the stairs to her shared apartment, Annie opened the door and discovered her usual circle of friends lounging about the living room.
"Well about time you showed up. Parker's been sitting there moaning and whining like the big baby that he is." Tanya glanced to the couch were said blond baby was draped across.
