before we begin

this is my first foray into a multi-chapter fanfiction. let's see how this goes...

this story will include the following (i'm trying not to spoil anything but this is more important):

swearing, some violence, scenes of a mildly sexual nature, and possible triggers to anyone with depression, etc. i'll probably put trigger warnings at the top of any specific chapters they're in, but this is just an overall preliminary announcement.

1. i do not own shawn mendes (lol), his family or his music. any references within this story belong to him and island records.

2. except for the above, all other characters, storylines, etc. that resemble anyone or anything currently existing is pure coincidence.

3. all of the other characters in this are fictional, including shawn's friends. they belong to me! please don't steal them.

4. this is an AU story, so shawn is not famous, nor will he become famous. this also means that his narration probably won't sound much like the real shawn's, which is okay because it's not the real shawn's story!
