The Lovers

It's 6:43 am and you slowly pull yourself out of bed. The gentle lighting of sun shining through the blinds hanging over the windows blinds your (E/C) eyes. Squinting away from the unwelcome light, you tug on your (H/L) locks that have gone out of place during the course of the night. As you brush the warm blanket off your sleepy from, a light chill goes across your skin.

A loud yawn escapes your lips. The clock on your alarm clock notifies you of the time. Seeing just how early it is, you sigh and lower yourself onto the fuzzy, carpeted floor. The familiar feel of the carpet wraps around the bottom of your feet as you walk towards the bathroom.

Wrapping your hand around the doorknob, you pull the door open and slowly step inside. The cold tile of the bathroom chills your feet and causes you to step back. Once inside the bathroom, you begin to get ready for the day ahead.

It's time to head out the door into the cool winter outdoors. Before you leave, you grab your deck of tarot cards. You splay the deck of cards out on the table and choose one at random. It seems that the fortune for today is 'The Lovers'. You gather up your cards and gently place them into your bag.

As you step into the frigid, winter wonderland outside the door, your warm boots meld into the snow covered ground, leaving behind crisp footprints. You continue to take step after step, creating a long trail of footprint after footprint. Soon after you take a few steps, the old left-behind footprints are slowly filled with cold, drifting snow.

Light snow rests atop your head and eyelashes as if it were freshly-fallen cherry blossoms gently laying on a resting kitten. The breath expelling from your lungs is visible in the cold winter air like ripples from the spring rain falling onto a still pond. The dots of snow swirling all around causes you to cross your arms for a weak sense of warmth in the freezing wind.

A tall, unwelcoming building stretches high into the sky along with many of the other towering buildings of the city. The automatic front doors snap open, causing a warm breeze to escape. The warmth of the escaped air wraps itself around you for a brief moment before turning cold and disappearing.

The footprints you left in the pure, white snow lead up to the doors and disappear. The doors shut behind you and lock out the cold. You gently pat your head, causing any of the remaining snow to melt into your hands. The distinct scent of pine hits your nose as you walk further into the building. Taking all of the usual turns, you find yourself in a room. The room is reminiscent of that of a karaoke bar, from the seats to the microphones.

You walk slowly through the room, into the one adjacent to it. A grand piano sits in the corner with the usual piano bench just in front of it. Various guitars, trumpets, maracas, and other instruments line the walls and clutter the floor. You sit down at a desk amongst the clutter and set down your bag. After the bag, you take off your jacket and shoes.

You grab a pencil and paper lying on the table and continue to work on writing your sheet music.

A soft voice draws you out of your concentration. "(Y/N)? I'm here!" it says.

"I'm in the other room," you reply.

The door swings open as a girl with excessive blonde hair rushes in.

"Hey, Mayu. How's it goin'?" you ask.

"I'm doing alright," she smiles.

"Want me to tell your fortune today?" you propose.

"Of course!" she excitedly chirps.

You reach into your bag a pull out the deck of tarot cards.

"Alright. Pick one," you say, with a light smile on your face.

Mayu closes her eyes and moves her hands over the cards. She reaches for one, but pulls her hand back. She does this many times before finally pulling a card out of the deck. She hands it to you and you flip it over.

"The World," you say.

"What does that mean?" Mayu asks.

"It means, if you've been waiting for something, now is your chance, take action."

She seems to ponder this for a second.

"Alright. There's something that I've been wanting to do," she admitted. "(Y/N)? Um, I uh... Will you go out on a date with me?"

You're taken aback by her sudden confession, but a smile still forms on your face.

"O-okay," you stutter.

Mayu seems overjoyed that you agreed and wraps you in a warm hug.

"I was thinking that maybe we could go to a cafe or something like that after work! Does that work with your schedule?"

You pull away from the hug and nod.

"That'd be great."

It looks like your fortune came true.
