Cameron just left. It was around three in the afternoon when he came. He didn't want to come in. He just asked if we could go to the backyard and sit down. I said yes and so we went there.
He sat down on the grass and I sat down beside him. "Steph, I forgive you, okay?" He told me. I bit my lip still unsure a person could forgive that fast. "I'll could never be angry at you. Never." He said.
"But it's time you forgive yourself," He ran his hands through his hair. "Self forgiveness is the most important thing of all. You need to learn to see yourself as a person. A person who makes mistakes and a person who will still make a lot of mistakes. And you'll have to keep forgiving yourself every time you make one." He smiled. "You need to turn all of the self hate you keep buried inside into self respect. If not, you'll never live in peace with yourself or with others." He bit his lip. "There comes a time in your life in where you just need to forgive yourself. For everything." He spoke. "And that time is now."
I faced the floor.
"That is the first step to healing. Healing your mind, your heart, your thoughts." He continued. "You're human, Steph. You make mistakes, just like everyone. I do too. Countless of them everyday. We all do. Be the friend to yourself you've always wanted to have." He took my hand and played with it.
"Steph, you're the only one who can do that. Nobody else can do it for you. What happened happened. Focus on the now. Focus on you. Focus on what makes you happy." He smiled and I thought of how lucky I am to have him in my life.
