Rin
The house was a wreck, the roof was folded in like someone had pushed it in the middle. Windows were shattered and only the room at the back on the second floor remained untouched. The lawn was strewn with glass and pieces of broken furniture that someone had obviously thrown. There was a huge gaping hole in the front wall, dust and bricks lay inside indicating that something wanted in. The bodies were laying outside, side by side, mother and daughter. It was a real sight.
The old man had said he had to make a delivery to a family who's daughter was sick and needed help, I begged him to let me go with him and after almost an hour of asking he finally gave in and let me tag along. When we arrived the woman greeted us at the door with a smile and let us inside. The living room was neat and obviously cared for. Everything had a place and everything was in it's place. It didn't look like what I'd expected a family home to be like, it looked like nobody had touched it before. It made me a little sad.
"Yuna is upstairs, she's probably asleep right now." The woman spoke, she seemed almost lifeless, like she hadn't smiled in years.
"Would it be okay if I took a look at her when she wakes?" Fujimoto asked, the woman nodded sadly.
"C-could I get you a cup of tea or something?" She asked, finding a way to excuse herself.
"If you wouldn't mind. Actually, I'll come and help you." The both of them left the room, I guessed they went to talk about the girl's condition without me. I sat there, swinging my legs back and forth.I decided to go and look for the bathroom, and there wasn't one downstairs, so I headed upstairs. I came across a door that was opened just a crack. Curiosity took hold and I couldn't help it. I peered inside to see a girl sitting up in bed, reading a book. As I opened the door a little more, she turned to look at me with wide eyes. She looked right at me, her eyes were full of fear.
"I, um, was looking for the bathroom." I rubbed the back of my neck awkwardly, trying to look away from her gaze.
"Th-third door on the left." She spoke quietly, as if afraid she might be heard. But before I could move I heard someone climbing the stairs.
"Rin, you should wait downstairs." The woman pulled my arm gently away from the bedroom. The old man came downstairs, looking grim, he sighed as I asked what happened.
"She's not getting any better." He said, opening the front door. We left, but neither of us had realised that Fujimoto had left his bag behind."Hey, where's your bag?" I asked, only as we arrived back home.
"I must've left it behind. Stay here while I go get it, okay?" He told me to stay behind, but I felt a strange need to go back there.
"Fine, you can tag along. I don't know why you'd want to anyway." I went back to the house with him and what we found was horrible."Rin! Help the girl!" I nodded and ran to her side, checked her pulse to see that she was still breathing. The old man checked the woman, breathed out a sigh and ran inside with her body in his arms. I sat beside the girl, not knowing what to do or where to go. So I stayed by her side.
After a few moments of silence she moaned softly. Her eyes fluttered open and she breathed out a shallow breath.
"W-what happened?" She almost whispered, looking up at the sky. Her eyes widened when she finally noticed me."Ah, um, it's okay. Don't worry. I'm Rin, we, uh, met earlier."
"I remember." She sat up and looked around, tears began streaming down her face. "The house...is mother okay?"
"I don't-" I was cut off mid-sentence by Father Fujimoto.
"Yuna, you're gonna come home with us!" He smiled, it seemed out of place amidst the scenery.
"What about mother...?" She wondered, her voice was barely audible.
"She...she's...she's gone somewhere. You won't see her for a long time, I'm sorry." He lied, I was about to protest and say that wasn't the truth, but his sharp look told me to do otherwise. The girl was light, she looked about my age, she couldn't be any older than eleven, maybe. I carried her in my arms until we reached home.
