"Girl's got power," a voice spoke through the mist. "As our leader, I'd expect nothing less. But without sleep, she can't help us. Right, Slogan?"
A red-headed boy clutched his tie. "R-right."
Another voice chipped in.
"Nonsense coming out of your mouths. Erika is not distracted, she will remain on task, and she will not falter in leading our clan." The deep voice struck the cool night. "But...if it were to come to it...we wouldn't hesitate...to cut her contact with the outside world."
"Slogan." The deep voice addressed the boy.
He looked up in shock. "Yes!"
"I'd like you to observe her. If it's needed, finish the job."
"But--I can't do something like that. It's...murder."
The deep-voiced man looked at him skeptically. "You are loyal...are you not?"
Fear swam in the boy's stomach. "Yes."
