I saw Rose collapse in the distance just after the meteor hit the house; and I never saw Mootchew come out.
"Wait in the treeline for us to return." I said to Shadow when I realized that Rose's fate will be the same if I don't go and save her from the giant meteorite about to hit her. Without another thought, I ran as fast as I could in these conditions towards Rose.
"Rose!" I called, hoping she could hear me over the wind. She hasn't been herself recently, and this still isn't like her; I fear that it will be hard to awaken her from her clouded daze that she has slipped into. "Rose!" I called once more; this time she seemed to hear me. I finally reached her just as she turned around to face me. "We need to go!" I told her over the wind.
"But...!" she began, but I cut her off.
"No! It's not as important as a life, especially yours!"
"What about Mootchew!?" She pleaded.
"We don't have time to discuss this now!" There was only seconds left and I can't believe we already wasted this much time. Before she could say a word, I wrapped my left arm around her waist and lifted her up. She seemed tense, but then wrapped her arm around me, and I held her close. I wish that I could just get rid of the current situation and just be alone with her, but that was practically impossible, and I shouldn't let my thoughts get in the way of the present situation. I looked behind us as the meteorite the size of a mac truck hit only a few yards away. The force blew us to the ground, bathing us in heat. Rose practically bolted to her feet as soon as she looked up, but her small frame doesn't help her and she falls back down.
"Shadow was right, the wind is going to be the death of us." Rose said, motioning upwards toward a meteorite only seconds away.
"Well, let's get the hell out of here." I grabbed her hand and pulled her towards me and we stumbled to our feet together. A giant gust of wind came and blew us back down, and I cursed.
"Travis." Rose spoke quietly.
"Of course that bastard is behind this!" I said angrily. "Get up." She did so with a lot of effort, but obeyed my words. "I apologize in advance."
"Wait, what!?" Rose had no more time to protest before I shoved her out of the way, and I lunged to the left after her, but the rock hit before I had much time to move another muscle. I felt searing pain on my left thigh, telling me my lung wasn't far enough, even though I went as far as I could.
"Chris!" Rose said, alarmed. She came besides me and dragged me away. "Shit." She said when she saw my leg. Without another thought, Rose unsheathed her dagger from the sheath on her thigh and cut away my pant leg.
"We don't have time for this." I muttered weakly.
"Too bad, I am at least going to try and stop the blood."
"No, just tie it and let's move." She considered this for a second then nodded reluctantly. She tied my mangled pant leg around my upper thigh, put her dagger away in its sheath, then helped me up. I almost fell down, but Rose caught me.
"Easy." She spoke gently in my ear. Rose positioned herself on my left side and we began to make slow progress. I tried hard to walk so Rose didn't have to bear so much of my weight, but I couldn't even see correctly at the moment due to my spinning vision and the black edging it as well, slowly creeping up, until the last thing I saw was burning trees before the darkness consumed me.
