I was sitting on my front porch. My bare feet skimmed the wooden deck. The humungous party balloons seemed to be looking down on me.

"Kaylee, they will be here any minute now!" Great. I thought. I was excited that I was finally having a party but my mom insisted on inviting this girl named Thalia. Thalia is my enemy, my arch enemy. My mom placed the exquisite cake on the plaid table cloth. She carefully placed the blue candles that were molded to look like a one and a two. Then I heard a loud sound coming from the other side of our small house. Ding dong! Ding dong! I slid through the broken screen door. I raced through the family room thinking that my best friend Taylee would be waiting at the door. But of course, I was wrong.

Thalia wore a dark pink dress that went down to her bruised knees. A sparkly light pink head band sat at the top of her head. Her outfit was perfect. "Hi Kaylee you might remember me but just to refresh your memory I am Thalia's dad. But, you can call me Dave. Can we come in?" "Sure." I mumbled.

Thalia's dad was tall and thin and wore a light blue T- shirt and what seemed to be a brand new pair of jeans what made him look extremely handsome, he planted a kiss on Thalia's head and whispered, "Go play." I guess Thalia didn't tell him that we despise each other!

Before I knew it, more and more people flooded my backyard like a river. But there was still no sign of Taylee. I decided to ask my mom what was going on. I sprinted past the people at the party without socializing with anyone along the way. My mom was hanging sweaters of all different colors on the silver coat racks. "Mom, where is Taylee? I can't wait any longer for her!"

My mom's face went from happy and exciting, to sad and glum." Sweatheart Taylee is not coming to your party, she got in a car crash and hurt herself. She is in the hospital right now. I didn't want to tell you because I didn't want to ruin your special day."

"What!!!" I screeched, and stomped back off to the party area trying to hide the pools forming in my eyes. I pretended to be lively and excited, but in the inside, I wanted to scream my head off! Now Taylee and I can't even talk about how mean Thalia is together!

A little while later, which seemed like forever, it was cake time! We all sang "Happy Birthday." and when I blew out the candles I wished that Taylee would feel better and come to my house all night so we can party to One Direction.

Then I opened presents. The usual, jeans or shorts with a matching cami or T- shirt, books, and a art project or two for me to do over the boring weekends.

When the party was over the scented trash bags were over flowed with garbage from my party! I dragged them to the curb and went inside. I climbed up the first stair when my mom called me over to the couch with her sweet, soothing voice. "Uh- oh," I thought, "this can't be good."

I sat down on the mud brown couch and stared at my pale feet and worn away painted toenails. "Sweetheart I have some very important news to share with you, so you know how I have been dating that one guy but I never really talk about him to you?" "Yeah." I said predicting what was coming next. "Well, I decided to marry him." "Wow! Mom that's.... Amazing!" "There is one thing you might not be to happy about though," she paused while I looked up to her with pouty eyes. "The guy I am marrying is Thalia's dad."

Chapter two

The next morning I woke up to the sensational smell of M&M pancakes. Probably a "I'm sorry I ruined your life" breakfast. I moped down the stairs and slouched once I got to my wooden chair. "Kaylee, I know your mad at me, but really, all you need is a little socializing and we can make this work." Her voice wasn't full of thought anymore, it was now painful to hear, like I was being stabbed with something.

I didn't talk to her for the rest if the day. It was just to depressing. The only words I managed to say to my mom was, "I want to see Taylee." my mom seemed fine with that. We hopped in the tan BMW and drove to the "Children's Hospital."

The Children's Hospital was welcoming and nice. All the nurses and doctors greeted me on the way to see Taylee. I missed her so much! I was like a ocean without any water and it was dreadful.

The walk to the hospital room that Taylee was in seemed like it took a lifetime, but when we got there Taylee was in her bed, just laying there. I looked around the light pink room examining everything. Then something caught my eye, a black wheelchair was next to Taylee's bed.

I ran over to Taylee and squished her in a big hug. When I pulled away there was tears on my shirt. Taylee's voice seemed glum when she spoke, "Kaylee I'm so sorry I didn't talk to you sooner, I was just to frightened to let you know! I'm truly sorry." she repeated her sorries over and over again but I did not reply. It wasn't because I was mad it was because I was weirded out of the idea of my BFF was in a wheelchair. For life!!! Okay maybe I was a little mad too!

Chapter three

I went to the car in tears thinking over and over again,"OMG! My best friend is in a WHEELCHAIR!!!" I was devastated and surprised. I could thank my mom for telling me a total lie!

"Mom how could you lie to me like that! You said that she was hurt, not that she broke her back!!!!!" "Sweetheart I am so sorry." she said in her kind gentle voice. "No you're not sorry! You never are!" Well that was a lie but can you blame me? I was petrified! "Kaylee I was only trying to protect you. I thought you were ready to know the truth! But obviously, your not. I thought that that day that you didn't talk to me, your were thinking it through and wasn't going to be a melt down when you saw the stupid chair!" I didn't talk to my mom the rest of the way home, it was a very kiddish thing to do but I did it and that's all I have to say about that.

Chapter four

After avoiding my mom, (which is pretty easy to do after locking your doors, crying, and screaming into my pillow,) I unlocked my door and crept downstairs. My mom was on the phone with Dave,(gag!) I could barely make out what she was saying for she was using her chipmunk voice. "Dave, Kaylee is devastated and I'm starting to second guess this whole marriage idea." There was silence and a few sighs from my mom. Then she hung up the telephone and balled her eyes out.

After about ten minutes of devistation, I walked in. "The weddings off Kaylee, I really hope your happy." her voice cracked like a wip. I didn't know what to say nor did I have anything to say. I just stood there, processing what just happened. There was a moment of silence that I decided to brake. "Mom I didn't realize how foolish I was acting. You were right. I just need time, and maybe a little chat with Thalia."

My mom did a "I forgive you" smile and dialed Dave's number. "The wedding is back on!" My mom stated loud and clear. Maybe a little to loud. I could of sworn the house shook a little. She hung up and looked at me. Her blue eyes met mine and a wide cheesy grin spred across her pale face.

I was so happy I had that chat with my mom. It seemed to clear things up, a lot. We ate dinner together and conversation filled the tiny dining room. I looked at my mom and asked probably the most daft question in my entire life. "Can we have a talk with Dave and Thalia?"

Chapter five

"Really? Um..." Mom mumbled, "Okay." Mom grabbed the white telephone and started to dial a number that seemed like it was the longest number in the world. "Hello, Dave is that you? Uh yes can you come over, we need to talk, make sure to bring Thalia!"

About a hour later, Thalia's dad arrived with Thalia in her bright yellow shirt and jean shorts.
