ignorance is (not) bliss

I have seen many things, many stories, with these eyes of mine
And one consistent pattern that I can find, is turning a blind eye
to anything that hurts too much to look at directly
Like the sun, in all its bountiful beauty
That will mindlessly incinerate you
If you get too close
So people would prefer to give everything a sideways glance
Than to look at anything hard enough to see its imperfections
As a life that is not perfect, is one that humans refuse to readily believe in
Because those imperfections could be reflected in them
And that is terrifying
Because everyone is afraid of that burn
But is it really a better life to lead
Walking around like a mindless zombie?
Unawares of anything true
In order to avoid the inevitable pain of life?
This will only prolong so much more pain until the end
When you die
So why not live?
And embrace the bad things so that you may appreciate all of the magnificently beautiful aspects that this world
This life
Has to offer
