Steve's alarm clock started blaring at 8:00 that morning with a repetitive and ear-bleeding inducing "beep" sound. He slammed his fist down on the stupid piece of crap, shutting it up instantly and groaning.
Another day, another dollar. Honestly, he was just showing up for the paycheck at this point. Not that it was very much. His mother had nagged him about going to college but he didn't and here he was. 19 years old and wasting his life away at a fast food joint.
He brushed his teeth, combed his blonde hair and groggily went to work. Upon arrival, he felt even worse than he did a couple minutes before because he saw his boss waiting for him at one of the tables. His boss practically had him on a leash, and no matter how hard Steve resisted, the man was persistent.
"Steve, m'boy! Sit down!"
Not that Steve had a choice. His boss grabbed his sleeve and tugged him down.
"Listen. I need you to fire up those grills extra hot this week. People have been flocking to the new Burger King down the road and we need to regain our customers. We need to, boy." His boss grabbed his shoulders and shook him. Steve wasn't paying much attention to his words. Just how pretty his boss was. With his choppy dark hair and bright eyes and youthful face. Steve hated his guts. All of his fellow employees were pretty. Steve stuck out like an ugly sore thumb. When customers said they wanted to 'speak to the manager,' they weren't there to file a complaint.
"Do you hear me!"
"Yes.."
"Good!" His boss slapped his shoulder and then stood, sashaying away. Steve lowered his head down onto the table and proceeded to begin his morning ritual of dreading the next few days to follow.
"UuuuuuuuuUUUUUUUUGH."
