At a government hospital in the Philippines, Dr. Faulkerson has just finished doing a surgery when the Nurse's Station suddenly paged his name "Dr. Francis Faulkerson please proceed to the Nurse's Station". He then went to the station and was informed that he has an urgent call.
"Dr. Faulkerson here. Oh hi Atty. Sam Wit. What made you call? ..... Is he alright? ..... Ahhhm .... I'll try to be there as soon as possible. Thank you."
He hangs up the phone. Stared at nowhere. Thinking heavily and little bit confused. A tear was about to fall when,
"Doctor are you alright? "Betty Mae his assistant asked. "Yes BM I'm fine" as he used to call her "please, I need you to fix my schedule and endorse my patients to Dr. Manalo. I had to fly ASAP to New York to see my father". Betty Mae cleared her throat "Sure Doctor, I'll do it away"
Dr. Francis Faulkerson is known to be a hardworking person. He accommodates as many patients as he can each day. He chose to work in a government hospital because of his passion to help others.
The hardships of life molded him to work hard to reach his ambition of becoming a General Surgeon. He was raised by a Filipino mother in Manila while his father is an American living in New York City. Although he had support from his parents, he has this self drive of wanting to earn his own money. Medical school costs a lot so this is his way of helping them out especially his mother.
During weekdays after school. He would work in a local fast food as a service crew. Bar tendering on weekend nights. Selling stuff like clothes, shoes and anything he can find in the local market to his classmates and co-workers. Reaching the finish line wasn't easy for Francis that's why he knew more about life and ordinary people.
Thoughts from the past linger in his mind as he open his luggage to pack some clothes. He looked at his passport and ticket and sat on a corner sofa inside his bedroom. Beside it is a picture of his mom, and, dad. As he looked at his mom's picture, he whispered "I love you mama, I miss you so much". Francis had always been close to his parents. He always make them proud. He looked at the shirt that mom gave him when he became a doctor. She knew his favorite color is powder blue. She would love to see him wearing it with his white pants and white coat. "I wish you're here to come with me to New York and see papa".
He took a deep breath, placed his mom's picture in his luggage. He touched his dad's picture and said "Hang on Dad, I will be there soon". He got up, started packing and made sure he had everything he will need. He made final calls to Betty Mae, Dr. Manalo and his patients. As he brought his luggage downstairs, he passed by the wall where all his achievements are displayed. "I wouldn't have done it without you, thank you mama, thank you papa"
