Everything goes dark and my heart jumps. I stop in my tracks and struggle out of the hands over my eyes. Cracks of light begin to appear and I smell a familiar, sweet, smell.
"Guess who?" His deep voice asks playfully as he removes his hands from my eyes.
"Taylor!!" I say, trying to sound mad but eventually laugh at his adorable floppy grin. "What's up?" I ask leaning close and putting my hand on his buff, bulging, shoulder. It's basketball season and he probably just saw the acceptance list for varsity.
"Well, I'm going to skip the rest of the day to go work." He smiles his wide I'm-hiding-something smile.
I laugh. "Why?"
"Well... I'll need the money if I'm going to take you out tonight for a celebration dinner! I got in!!!" He says while imitating what I think is a half-court shot. He beams with pride for himself.
"Oh Tay! I'm so proud! You really deserve to be on the team, you do!" I lean in and kiss him on the cheek. "I have to go to class. Text me!" As I turn on my heal I hear him greeting another one of his friends with his exited voice. I love that guy.
Walking down the hall to health, I run into Alexis, Audrey, Melissa, Sophie, Adelina, Megan, Chiara, and Brittany. And because it's rude to ignore a long time friend I just HAD to stop and chat with each of them, making me 20 minutes late. When I walk in Mr.Bradmire is in the middle of talking about mental health. Ugh. I'm going to go mental if he doesn't drop it soon.
I sneak in the front to my desk. It's unspoken but still known, that it's MY seat. No one elses. I slide into the chair just in time for him to turn around from drawing a diagram of the brain on the board. He doesn't seem to notice and I applaude my wonderful self for being so stealthy. By the time he wraps up I have taken notes, clipped my nails, taken a short nap, and passed seven notes. I am the note passing QUEEN. You got a note that needs to be passed? I'll pass it.The bell rings for the end of the day and I look at my phone and see a missed call from my mom. How am I supposed to answer when I'm busy being perfect? When I get to the hallway among the chaos I call her back and when she answers I put on my sweet time-to-get-what-i-want voice and ask her about going out with Taylor.
"Hey mom."
"Hi honey!"
"Guess what! Taylor got onto the varsity team!"
"Oh that's great! Good for him! Tell him I'm happy for him!!"
"Or.... You could SHOW that you're happy for him by letting me go out with him tonight?"
Silence
"Well.... I'd have to talk to your dad first, but I guess it's okay as long as he's paying."
"Oh yeah! That's where.." I stop, catching myself from exposing Taylor's secret plan to my mom. Now I'm at my locker. "Hey mom?" She stops talking about whatever she started to go on about.
"Yes?" She sounds a bit mad from being interupted.
"I got to go! See you at home! Love you bye!!" I quickly hang up and open my locker to find a note from Lexie, my best friend.Sammy,
Oh my GOD!!! U will totes never believe what happened to me!! I was at basketball tryouts and I saw this guy and he was SO cute!! I guess he saw me staring at him because later he came up to me and asked for my number and I gave him my number, snapchat, instagram, everything!! His name is Peter and he's so hot!!!
Just wanted to tell u!!
LexLexie, Lexie, Lexie. She's so quick to jump into things. I'm happy for her though. But I should do some investigating on this guy before he "investigates" her. I know he probs wouldn't do that but, you never know. This is my best friend we're talking about and you can never be too careful.
