Beep. Beep. Be-. I slap my hand on my alarm clock willing for the noises to leave my ears. I don't understand why I never learn to turn my alarm off on the weekends. As if on cue my little sister Abby comes running into my room, having no regard to knock. Seeing how she is only five it Is kind of expected.
"Jessie Jessie Jessie!!" I groan in response but she understands I mean for her to go on. "Mom's cooking pancakes."
"Abby, do we have to go through this Saturday?" Pausing to see if she has a response I am met with nothing, a confused five year old continues to sit at the foot of my bed. Her head is slightly cocked to the side with her eyebrows furrowed. "Ab," I continue with a sigh. "Saturday is pancake day." She giggles in amusement.
"But today Is Chocolate Chip pancakes." My eyes widen. We stare at each other for a second before we both spring to life. Jumping out of bed while snaking my arms around my petite sister's body is a challenge, however, I manage even with the squirming.
I pick her up and throw her down on my bed turning on the ball of my foot with one quick motion. Sprinting out the door and down the stairs leaving a giggling Abby in my bed. Getting a head start is always an advantage in my family. Jumping down the stairs two at a time gets those done easily, luckily not tripping (as I usually do). From here it is just a short walk to the kitchen.
I can smell the amazing aroma of my mom's pancakes. I run into the kitchen and sit at the bar patiently waiting for my mom to turn around. She does seconds later and jumps at the sight of me.
"Wow mom, I know I'm ugly but jeez." She laughs nervously causing me to become nervous. "What's wrong?"
"What do you mean?" She stops tentatively then begins again "Nothing Is wrong. Come here and sit down." I do as I'm told sliding the thought to the side.
A plate is slid in front of me and I watch in awe as she places my favorite foods are placed on the plate. Abby and Shane come running down the stairs. Plopping down on the stools next to me they attempt to catch their breath and call who gets the first batch of bacon. The first is always the best. Laughing in amusement my mother continues to fix my food.
When she is finally done I look down and I am met with the most beautiful plate of food ever. Consisting of bacon, pancakes, and my grandma's banana nut muffins. My mouth begins to water as I stare in awe. Okay. I'm sure of it, something is up. "Mom? What's wrong?" She starts to walk slowly towards the living room. "JENNIFER ANNE MITCHELL" she turns around on her heel to look at me with an apologetic look. "this is ridiculous just tell me, I'm a big girl." As she opens her mouth the reply the doorbell rings. A sigh of relief escapes her mouth and a grin grows on her face.
"I'll get it!" she rushes to the door with me trailing closely behind. She swings the door open to reveal the two faces I thought I would never see again.
Ryder Williams was standing there looking very happy with himself. "No.NO. NO!" I stared at my mom looking for any sign that this was a joke. Maybe I'm dreaming, or maybe these are some Williams look-alikes. I held out my arm for someone to pinch me but no one did. My mother slowly pushed my arm down. I took in a large breath, turned around, and walked back to the kitchen. I felt bad for being rude to Connie (Ryder's mom) but I do NOT feel bad about being rude to Ryder. I took my breakfast and stomped to my room. Slamming my door, locking it, I sat at my desk and opened my laptop. I logged onto Youtube and watched funny videos while I ate my breakfast to try to calm myself down. Eventually, it did.
I tried everything I could to keep myself busy. From facetime to youtube to games on my phone. I decided to clean my room. Yep, that is what I have come to. My phone was hooked up to my Bluetooth speaker and the volume was all the way up. I put Energy on because why not. Dancing around my room and screaming the lyrics can be very therapeutic. My Drake playlist continued playing and I was eventually done cleaning my room. I flopped on my bed with a sigh.
As I was laying down I started to smell food. And it wasn't until then did I realize I was super hungry. Flinging my door open I tiptoed down the stairs looking around to see if there was any sign of Ryder. "What ya looking for?" a manly voice whispered in my ear making me jump. I turned around and hit Ryder in the shoulder. Not hard. But it's the thought that counts. "It was for me wasn't it princess?" I laughed sarcastically.
"You wish Williams." I scoffed and walked to the kitchen with my head held high. I could feel Ryder's eyes burning into me. I turned around and gave him a cheesy smile "Take a picture it will last longer." Satisfied with my sass I strutted off to the kitchen. "What are you cooking?"
"fettuccini alfredo and for dessert, chocolate chip cookies." My mouth watered at the thought.
"Mmm. My favorite!"
"Yep, but it's also someone else's favorite." I rolled my eyes. Yes I knew it was Ryder's favorite too. Can't she give me one thing that doesn't have to with Ryder today please? I glance slightly to him standing there listening to our conversation. I turn back towards my mom on the bar stool I was sat on. Realizing I forgot my phone in my room I got up and walked past Ryder. Purposefully hitting Ryder's shoulder on my way by. He pretended to be hurt then just laughed it off. I took the stairs two at a time. Grabbing my phone off the charger I turned around of my heel to see Ryder in my doorway. I gasped in fear "Stop doing that!"
"Not that I care, but out of curiosity, why do you hate me?" I looked at him to see if he was joking or not and he wasn't. I started laughing. Actually laughing.
"Why do I hate you?" I asked in a mocking one in between breaths. Stopping, I said "Oh, youre serious." He just nodded. Standing up and walking towards him, "You. Ruined. My. Life." He gave me look making me continue. "Let me tell you one word that might kick in some memories. Jack."
