It was New Year's day. The streets were empty, and the snow was still falling thickly, something that was rare for England. The smell of last nights celebration bonfires was still fresh in the air and the sun was showing the first light of the new year.
Annalise Forest sighed with relief when she realized she was getting closer to her destination. It was cold, she didn't have the warmest clothes, and she'd left her wand behind in her hurry to get away from her house.
A small cry came from the bundle in her arms. Annalise glanced down, her hair creating a silvery curtain around the baby's face, "Hush child, we're almost there" Annalise's voice was light, despite the task in front of her.
The baby's cries slowed and quickly stopped. Annalise smiled lightly before continuing to walk.
Five minutes later she reached her destination, The Burrow. Home of Molly and Arthur Weasley and their seven kids. Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron and newborn Ginny.
Annalise stopped as she reached the faded brown front door. With a sad sigh she glanced at the small baby in her arms, "Be good, my dear, I love you"The baby just gurgled in response.
Annalise raised her free hand and knocked on the door. There was a pause, before she heard someone shuffling towards the door, and then it swung open and then Molly Weasley was stood in front of her.
Annalise almost had second thoughts as she took in the elder woman's appearance. Her hair hair was sticking up in various directions, there was screaming coming from a room in the house, cackling and a few bangs, and in her arms, Molly Weasley held a screeching Ginny.
"What?" Molly's voice was tired, and the word came out as a snap. Annalise took a breath, "Molly. It's me, Annalise."
Molly's eyes widened, "Anna?! My dear, come in, it must be freezing." She took in Annalise's tattered clothes, and her scratched and bloody hands, it was obvious something bad had happened.
Annalise shook her head, her eyes begininng to water, "I can't, Molly, I can't." It was then, Molly's eyes fell on the bundle in her arms. She stepped foward, "Oh, Anna, please tell me you didn't."
Annalise hung her head. Molly sighed sadly, her breath creating a puff of icy air.
"Mummy!!! Fweddy an Geowge being bad!" Molly's head snapped round at the sound of her youngest son. Annalise frowned. "It's time Molly." Molly looked back around, her face white. "No, Anna, I can't! I have seven children..."
Annalise nodded, "I understand, but I cannot take care of this child. I cannot keep running with her... I'm...."She trailed off.
Molly frowned deeply, "You're what, Dear?"
Annalise raised her head, "Dying." she replied. There was a silence.
Annalise spoke again, "Molly, please, we made a deal, a promise. She's innocent." her voice was pleading now. Inside she knew she shouldn't be asking Molly, but she didn't want her child to be dumped with a stranger.
Molly's eyes trailed to the child who was sleeping soundly. "What about Arthur?" she asked. Annalise frowned, "I'm his best friend, you both agreed to the promise."
The snow started falling faster, settling on the child's head. Molly hesitated, before nodding. "Bill!" she called. There was a pause, before the eldest Weasley child apeared in the doorway. "Yes Mum?" Molly smiled fondly, "Take Ginny for me dear and get Charlie." she passed Ginny carefully to Bill, and patted his head, "Careful now."
A few seconds later, Charlie appeared in Bill's place. "Mum?"
Molly reached out for Annalise's child, fixing her white as snow blankets when she had a safe grip on her. "Does she have a name?" she asked quietly. Annalise tilted her head, "Hmmm, Yes. Amelia, no middle name yet, that's up to you."
Molly nodded and passed Amelia to Charlie, "Take Amelia into the living room, darling. Don't let Fred and George go near her!" she called after him as another POP came from the room.
Studying her friend, Molly stepped out into the snow and hugged her friend. "Thank you." Annalise whispered as she pulled away, Molly nodded, realizing her friend needed to go.
"Goodbye." Annalise waved, and turned, before hurring down the snow flooded street, her cloak brushing behind her, wiping away all evidence she'd ever been there.
The first ray of sunlight peeked out of the sky, and the birds started singing.
"Goodbye."
