I pushed away my now empty bowl of ramen and snickered a little internally at how Kakashi still hid his face as he ate.
"You know, I might be able to develop a real obsession with this stuff too."
Kakashi laughed, "Let's hope not. A village can only handle one Naruto at a time." He looked at me so intensely that my face started to heat up a little, "You've been really nice to me recently, which is more than I deserve, so I'd like to say thank you."
I internally cursed myself for becoming so flustered- I was a grown woman, not a school girl. "You're welcome, I guess. I don't know, it's just harder to be abrasive towards you when I don't hate you."
"That's good to hear." Kakashi stood up and placed money on the counter for both of our meals.
"Kakashi, you don't have to pay for me; I can cover my own meal."
"I'm the Hokage, it'd be improper for me to do anything else."
I snorted, "Don't give me that bull. Since when did you consider what's proper or not, especially when you read those pervert books of yours."
"Fine then, how about this: I want to pay for your meal. Better?"
I smiled, "I suppose so."
Kakashi reached out and offered me a hand and I took it as he pulled me up to my feet.
"Senpai!"
I turned to look and Yamato was strolling towards us with an unnaturally large grin on his face.
Kakashi narrowed his eyes, "Yamato, what's got you so happy?"
Yamato froze and shadow seemed to flicker across his face before his large smile returned, "I developed a new jutsu just now. Would you like to come and see it?"
"Ah, maybe some other time, you see Kaiyo and I-"
"Please Senpai!"
I narrowed my eyes too. I had only interacted with Yamato twice before, but I still knew that he was acting strangely.
I noticed that Kakashi was still holding onto my hand when his grip tightened slightly, "Yamato, are you doing alright?"
He cocked his head slightly to the side, "I'm doing perfectly fine. I'm just very excited about this new jutsu. Please come and look."
"Can you at least tell me what sort of jutsu it is?"
The strange shadow flashed across Yamato's face for the second time before he answered, "No, I want it to be a surprise."
I tugged a little on Kakashi's hand, bringing his face closer to mine so that I could whisper in his ear, "Kakashi, what on earth is going on?"
He sighed, "I have no idea. Yamato is never like this."
"Maybe we should go with him just to make sure that he's okay."
"I agree... I don't know what I'd do if something were to happen to him."
I nodded, "It's settled then."
