• • • [[ it has been a week since i made the phone call. the line couldn't be established to the number later. it is a sunny afternoon at present. i look out my office window and look at the people who appear to be too engrossed in their smart phones. people are still carrying their umbrellas, just in case, the clouds change their mind. it is an instinct, we humans, have. preparing ourselves for the unknown. securing ourselves from the odds which might befall us anytime in the future. i was not prepared. who would have guessed? i lost her.
it was after midnight. i woke up as the windows started to rattle with the strong wind blowing outside. ellie was not there beside me. i got up to look for her in the other rooms. as soon as i got up from the bed and opened the bedroom door to step outside, i heard someone singing. it sounded like a children's poem, only that it scared me to the bones. i followed the voice and walked upstairs. it was our spare room from where she was singing. the door was open. i slowly and carefully took every step as my heart started to flutter and the fear caused pain in the chest. she was sitting in the corner of the room with her face towards the wall. the floor was damped with blood and she was bleeding from down below. her clothes were stained with blood.
suddenly, she stopped singing. "wanna play with your dead child?" she said and turned to face me. the demon.
i knew that she was pregnant. i knew that day that the demon killed my baby that day, in the womb. an abortion. ]] • • •
