Remember that bad temper thing I was talking about with Kobe? Yeah, I was wrong. He doesn't have a bad temper, he has a terrible temper.

Ben and I couldn't find a place to intervene in the extremely physical fight. Just as we found a reprieve in their senseless punching, one would flip the other over and start the process all over again.

Blood and sweat splattered the newly raked sand and I felt sick to my stomach as I waited for my time to butt in.

Ben made the first move once they started to get into a slap fight and yanked Thomas off of Kobe, who scrambled to his feet and tried to charge at Thomas again.

I held his arms back as he thrashed around in my grip. "Let go of me!"

"Kobe," I said softly. "you need to calm down-"

"I tried to tell you!" He thrashed my arms off of him and turned to face me. "They're scumbags!" He turned back to face Thomas, who was trying to writhe from Ben's large hands but was failing miserably. "What were you going to do, huh? Because I'm not afraid of you! You come in here acting all big and tough, you're not!"

"Kobe!" I yelled, standing between him and Thomas. "Stop! Go back up to the house, I'll handle this!"

"That's right," Thomas spoke up, finally free from Ben's grasp. "run up to the house now. Listen to your girlfriend-"

He turned around, nostrils flared but I quickly turned him back around, shooting a glare at Thomas.

"Thomas," Ben started. "go wait in the car."

Thomas muttered something under his breath as he walked between the narrow valley between the two hills.

I let out a long breath, glancing over at Ben. "I'm really sorry about him-"

"No, Thomas was way out of line. I didn't even get to finish telling you the deal-"

"I'm sorry but the resort isn't for sale. It's been in the family for generations and you can't have it-"

"-we can offer you ten million dollars for it."

I stopped speaking when he said this and stood there with a dry mouth. "You said t-ten million?"

He nodded. "Ten million."

I should've shook his hand and gave him the property deed right there. With ten million dollars, my dad and I could move out of that crusty old cabin and find ourselves a nice house in a residential neighborhood and never have to work a day in our lives.

But, ten million dollars couldn't pay for memories. It couldn't pay for a legacy. It couldn't pay for my ancestors' names that would be suffocated by a skyscraper, you couldn't put a price on that. I couldn't let my dad down and give up. He wouldn't want me to do that.

Then again, he couldn't do anything about it.

This place was owned by me. My name. I could do whatever I want and he couldn't intervene. I know that ten million dollars would fulfill us greatly physically, but it would never fulfill us emotionally or mentally. We would be bored rich people.

"I'll think about it." I said, my voice still dry.

"Please do." Ben cast me one last weak smile and walked back up the hill.

I kicked fresh sand over the bloody ones and finished raking with haste, doing the rest of my chores before going back up the hill.

My dad was tending to Kobe's wounds when I got up there and he didn't look happy at all. When he saw me, a strange look of relief, confusion, and anger crossed his face.

"What happened?"

I looked down at Kobe sitting on the couch, Band Aids stuck all over his face as he looked down at his hands.

I sighed and jerked my head towards the kitchen, my father following me in there.

I closed the door and took a deep breath. "Representatives from Deluxury hotels came and asked about buying the property. Kobe had a few exchanges with one of them and they got into a disagreement-"

"Disagreement?! Pocahontas, he has a black eye, five cuts that were inches away from needing stiches, and possible a broken nose! I left you in charge-"

"Dad, you left me and Kobe in charge. Kobe took charge, unfortunately. Look, it's over now and there are other things to discuss-"

"I've already had complaints about the noise and people are worried about their children. Don't let this happen again."

"I'll try my hardest." I took a deep breath.

He nodded. "Now what did you want to say to me?"

"The offer-"

He put up his hand. "We're not selling this place."

"-It was ten million dollars."

He looked up at me, then around the room. "What?"

"I know, that's what I said. Dad, I know how much this place means to you but just maybe consider giving it up. We're buckling under the weight of mortgages and that amount of money could really help us out."

He shook the lustful glaze from his eyes. "No, we're doing fine as we are and need this place."

"Dad, I know you're worried about the legacy but think of the legacy we could leave with ten million dollars. We could find a property somewhere else for that matter-"

"Poca, it's not just the buildings on this land that made it a legacy. It's the lake and the sand. My great great great grandfather bought this land from a stuck up property owner for ten cents."

"And we could sell it for ten million dollars. I think my great great great great grandfather would say that he got a pretty good deal out of this place."

"The answer is no." He said firmly.

I sighed, wondering if I was going to regret this decision.
