"Your name is Brianna Darst, correct? You are travelling alone? And you are going to live with your uncle and his family?" The personnel fired the questions. I nodded at all of them.

"Why am I being withheld? I'm going to miss my flight? Is there any valid reason why you're keeping me here?" The man in the suit was checking files in his folder. I could see myself in the one-way mirror across from where I sat, which was in the interrogation table. I was being questioned and I'm about to miss my flight to California. I could see a girl, 16 years old and a tad bit short for her age. She had hair the colour of dirty ash blonde. She had thick framed glasses that suited her bluish-grey eyes with specks of gold well. Her glasses framed her face in a way that only compelled people to look at her beauty and she was wearing a band tee with black skinny jeans. I could see that she was clearly uninterested in what the man was asking her.

"So... Are you going to let me go or are we just gonna sit here and stare at each other until someone's face melts off?" I asked, my voice dripping with irritation. The man stood up and cleared me of whatever charge he held against me. He opened the door and said.

"You're good to go," I flipped him off and walked out the door.

Airport security sucks hell. I've been withheld for over an hour and missed my flight. The reason why? They said I looked suspicious. Its two hours later and I'm released from custody and I'll be boarding my flight to Los Angeles, California in less than thirty minutes. I was reading a book, music blasting through my earphones when a shadow covered my book, distracting me from my reading. I looked up to see a man, probably in his early forties smiling at me like any stranger would. I smiled back before taking off my earphones.

"Hi, can I help you?" I asked kindly. He heartily laughed at my question which brought shine and life to his grey eyes. And he laughed a bit more when he saw that my brows were furrowed in confusion. "It looks to me like I can be of more help to you than you help me," He paused a bit, waiting if I was going to say something. When I didn't, he continued. "I saw you got caught up in the security," He said in a barely audible whisper as he sat down next to me. I really didn't want to talk to him, but I didn't know how to say it so I just kept silent.

"So, where are you off to?" I thought for a moment if it was safe to tell a complete stranger where I was going. But then I thought what harm could a smiling, kind, forty year-old guy bring upon me? "I'm headed to LA," I said. He nodded and then he told me all about how he was going to visit his daughter who now also lives in LA. He told me her name was Amber, and that she was starting college in Triton University. I smiled and told him that was also where I was going to study. We talked for a little bit more before the intercom played the same music whenever they had an announcement to make.

"Flight DL593 is boarding now. Please board the plane now, thank you," The intercom played the music again and we both stood up and grabbed out things. He let me get in line first which was really nice but I really wanted to continue reading my book.

I gave the lady my ticket and she let me pass. As I boarded the plane, I looked for my seat and walked along the isle until I found my seat which was G24. I put my carry-ons in the compartment above the seats and sat down on the window seat. I put my earphones back on and played my chill playlist. I opened up my book and started reading from where I left off last time. I didn't really listen to the flight attendant who made all the necessary announcements.

Two hours later and I'm off the plane. I was looking for someone who would be familiar to me. I waited for another 30 minutes before I saw my uncle. He was with a woman I assumed was his wife. They were waving at me and holding up my name with a white piece of paper. I walked towards them and they gave me a hug.

"It's been so long Brianna! How are you? Here, let me take your bag," I answered all the questions and greeted all the same. I gave my uncle my luggage and I kept my bag to myself. I looked to my uncle's wife and smiled at her. "Ah! Brianna, I want you to meet my wife, Josie," She smiled and she was beautiful. She was a blonde, but her roots show otherwise. It was a great effect, showing some depth on her hair. She had porcelain-like skin and a figure of a model. I could see why my uncle fell for her.

"So, are we going to stand here all day or are we going to take Brianna home?" Josie said with great enthusiasm. My uncle, Nick laughed and all of us walked outside the airport and we walked towards the car and got in. I sat in the back and I could see that it was filled with pillows and toys. They both got in front with Nick in the driver's seat and Josie on the passenger seat. Josie looked at me and smiled. "Our kids can't travel without pillows," I smiled and nodded and continued reading. I was trying to finish the 4th book to a novel I've been obsessed with. They let me be and it was a good hour before we reached our destination.

Their house was massive, it resembled a mansion more than a house. Nick got something out of his pocket and pressed a button, the garage doors open and revealed two more cars inside. Nick told Josie to let me get settled while he parked the car so we got out with my things and got the rest of it in the trunk. Josie and I walked to the front door and she got a key somewhere and opened the door. She opened the door to reveal a massive recreational area. It had three couches and two chandeliers lighting it up. We both walked in and it took a full minute to sink it all in. If the outside was beautiful, the inside was grand. It had floors of marble tiles and walls of wood. The ceiling was high and the house had 4 floors. I was dumbfounded by the size and grandeur.

"Let me show you your new room. Come," Josie led me up the stairs on the second floor and turned right, then we walked down the corridor and she opened the door to a room near the end of the corridor to reveal a huge room with neutral coloured wallpapers.

"We didn't know what colour you liked so we settled with neutrals. We hope you like it," She said quietly. I placed my bag at the foot of my new bed and turned around.

"It's okay. I love it actually," She smiled at what I said and turned to leave the room.

"Just call us if you need anything. We'll let you get settled."

I sat at the foot of my bed, with my bags and thought long and hard how I was going to adjust to the new life ahead of me...

It's going to be a long day.
