When I think back before I came here I think about when I was with my grandfather for the last time. I was only sixteen at the time when he laid in there in that bed surrounded by family he smiled at me as he handed me that letter that would change my life forever. "And to my grandson I want you to have this letter" those words echoed in my head at his funeral as I shed tears for really he was more like a father to me than anyone as he helped raised me when my own father was nowhere to be seen.
A few years passed after his death and I was now at the age of twenty one and working my first real job outside of college. Sadly it was dull and boring as the fellow employee's only thought of making quota. Each night I would go to the local pub only to see those same lifeless eyes there this was not the life I wanted to live it wasn't what I wanted at all and I felt trapped. Some nights I would come home like a zombie myself as my mother smiled at me and talked about the old days back on grandpa's farm.
I would think of the little red head girl who would come and visit every summer and play with me in the forest. Finally one day I had enough I stood up and looked around at every cubical and sighed as I flopped back down and opened my office drawer inside was grandpa's letter. I sighed and opened it up and began to read a tear rolled down my cheek as I took the deed he had left to me and smiled. Finally with courage and a new purpose in life I stood up packed my things and quit my job for good at Joja.
It was exciting I felt alive like back when I was a child as I ran home and burst into the house I showed mom the letter and deed and ran up stares packing my things. A picture of mom, Grandpa, and me standing in front of his old cabin a doodle that the girl that use to visit us every summer left me and my lucky baseball cap. I smiled at mom and handed her the address so she could send me my stuff. I gave her a hug and kissed her cheek as she smiled at me and held me close. "Remember son you'll always have a home here but never give up on your dream" She said to me as i waved goodbye and walked off towards the bus station. A sudden fear came over me as I passed the Joja office I once worked at as I was leaving behind the modern world for something more peaceful, more natural, and more human in my book.
As I walked up to the bus station I sighed as I stood in line the ticket agent calling the person in front of me I pulled out my wallet and saw a picture of me and the little red head girl I kept. I began to wonder what she was doing now and where she was as I began to daydream I suddenly was brought back to reality as the lady called me to the counter. "Round trip or one way hun ?" She asked me as I looked at her. I smiled "One way to Stardew Valley please miss". She nodded and handed me my bus pass I took it and headed over to the platform to which I would broad my bus and start my new life.
The bus was actually very comfy compared to the city buses I use to take around the city its seats looked new and it wasn't as cramped as I thought it would be. As I got to me assigned seat I put my shoulder bag up on the overhead and sat down near the window I sighed as I looked out the window and watched us depart when suddenly I heard an innocent little voice behind me "Hey mister ! Whatca doing? "Said the voice as i turned around and looked down at the little girl sitting in the seat next to me. I smiled and said "Why I'm getting ready to go on an adventure." She smiled at me and asked what sort of an adventure and in response I said A life changing adventure. As the trip continued I enjoyed my time on the bus playing cards with my little passenger and telling stories that my grandfather use to tell me when I was her age when finally we began to come into a small little valley.
Finally we were here I smiled as I stood up and said my goodbyes to the little girl and her mother as I put my bag on my shoulder I got off to be greeted by a women with red hair who said she had been sent here to pick me up and bring me to my grandfather's farm. I shook her hand as she introduced herself as Robin and I introduced myself to her as we began to walk down the old dirt trail towards the farm we smiled as I told her about my trip and she told me about the town. Finally we came to a pair of worn down wooden gates and for the first time in four years I placed my hand on the gate and opened it up. Thus I took my first step into a new world
