Star looked up to see the moon slowly rising into the darkening sky. It had been a long day, and everyone else was already asleep. " How pretty... " She murmured , laying her head down on her paws and sighing. Rolling her head to one side, she tried to find some different constellations. She spotted cancer, the crab constellation and traced the stars with her paw. After a minute or two of finding and tracing more constellations, Star heard shuffling. She flicked her ears.
No one was around, but there were two eyes shining from the deputies den. She got up from her resting spot and glared at the wolf in the den. " Hey! " She whisper yelled. " You're not supposed to be in the beta's den! " She growled.
There was a snort of laughter and more shuffling.
" Hey! " She said again, a little bit louder this time. " Get out of there! "
The two eyes shone with happiness and amusement under the light of the moon. They started moving forwards until Star could see who the mysterious wolf was. It was Sorro, the beta male of Moon pack.
Star blinked once before realizing who was in front of her. Sorro, the beta and heart throb for almost every single female wolf in the pack except for the ones with mates, Celeste, and Star, who didn't really like anyone. " O-Oh! Sorro! I am so sorry! Did I wake you? I didn't uhm.. Mean to... " Star gave a nervous smile. Sorro was nice, but could be vicious when someone woke him up or broke a rule.
" Ahh.. No. I was already awake Star. " The beta laughed and smiled.
" Wait wait wait wait. You know my name?!? Why? How? Nobody's supposed to know my name... " Star spoke of the truth, sadly. Being a loner in a pack meant that nobody was supposed to know your name, and that if anyone ever speaks it, you must be executed or sent away.
Sorro laughed. " Sorry if I scared you with that, but me and Celeste know and can say your name whenever we please. We can't say it when other wolves are around, of course, but we may call you by your name if we wish to. " Star just looked at Sorro in complete disbelief. " Anyway, I couldn't get to sleep, so I'm still awake. Why are you awake, though? "
Star shook her head. " I'm always up this late... Really I'm up all night, every night. I sleep mainly during the day to follow Celeste's wishes for me to not be seen. " She sighed and drew and line in the soft dirt with her claw.
" You must have a very lonely life. " Sorro said quietly, looking down at his paws. Star nodded and sat down in the dirt. Sorro sat down to.
" I've lived my entire life alone. When you get transferred from one pack to the next it's hard. You leave everything you know behind. But I didn't come from a pack. I just appeared one day at the entrance of the camp. At least, that's what Celeste says. I don't question her. " Star's voice had started to get a little hoarse, so she cleared her throat. " I don't really have anything to look back on, to remember. I was so young, maybe only a few days old. I didn't have anything to leave behind, so I just... stayed here. If I did have something to go back to, I would... "
Sorro looked back up at Star, who's eyes were sad with memories long forgotten. He carefully walked towards Star as he quietly spoke to her. " You must have such a sad life, living here, alone, in the shadows. " When he finally reached her, he put a paw on her shoulder. She immediately tugged away from his light grip.
" Hah. Yeah right. " Star rolled her eyes and turned away from Sorro.
He looked at Star carefully. " I'm telling the truth... W-why would you think otherwise? " Sorro looked at Star with such confusion and sadness that would make any other she-wolf swoon.
" Answer me this - If you think my life is so sad, why don't you do something about it? Your a place of power, right? " Star turned back around, a sarcastic smile on her face. " Why don't you do something about it? " Sorro was speechless. He opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out. He tried to walk towards Star again, but he continuously tripped over his own paws. He had never thought of it that way. This beautiful she-wolf was insulting him for something he didn't even know he was doing! Star laughed, in an almost evil sounding way. " You didn't think of it that way, did you? " She smiled, though it didn't look any more evil that it did sad.
" I-I'm sorry... " Sorro mumbled, looking up into Star's eyes desperately. Her eyes were a light silver blue, like many other wolves in the pack.
Star laughed once more. " It's a little to late for an apology, isn't it, Sorro? " She smiled in a sarcastically evil way, and started to walk. Then she started to run. This wasn't a normal moonlight walk, though, oh no. This was something totally different.
She was running away.
