The last normal day of my life, and it started off as usual;
I woke up for school, showering, getting dressed and applying my make up. I ate breakfast, texted my boyfriend and goofed around with my little brother as usual, then I slipped on my vans and walked to school. The school was only 10 minutes away from my house, so it was nice to get some much needed fresh air.
I had my earbuds in, and my music playing, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. "Hey Lana." I smiled at the curly haired boy. I love Harry, he's such a great guy. So sweet, incredibly attractive and funny, but I've known since day one that he liked me, and I've just never seen him that way before.
"Hey Harry. How are you?" I casually asked, slowing up a bit so he could walk with me. He smiled his signature dimpled grin, showing all his pearly white teeth. His smile was contagious, kind of like the infectious disease that would soon spread all over the world within the next 24 hours. I couldn't help but smile back at him.
"Eh, can't complain. Are you going with us to the movies tonight?" He asked. I shook my head.
"Nat is taking me to dinner for our 8 months. But maybe next week, yeah?" His face fell, but reluctantly he nodded. We finished the walk to school in silence. I felt guilty. While I didn't feel anything for Harry, I was a huge pushover and entirely too sensitive for my own good. I always let my feelings and emotions get in the way of what's right.
I walked to class, too in my own world to realize Nat was talking to me. "Lan, you okay?" I jolted back to reality.
"Huh? Oh, I'm fine. Just thinking, that's all." Nat knew Harry liked me, and he didn't take too kindly to it, but Harry didn't threaten his position as my boyfriend, so Nat never bothered with Harry. But he still wasn't fond of the fact that me, Harry and Harry's 4 best friends, Niall, Liam, Louis and Zayn were all really close.
As far as I was concerned, Harry and the boys knew more about me than Nat ever could. Nat still didn't know my favorite color, or birthday, my eye color, etc. Harry could write a book about me and still have more to say, but I just couldn't bring myself to be with Harry. As much as I hated to admit it, though, Harry would be a better boyfriend.
I sat outside after school, listening to my iTunes and texting my best friend, Eleanor. You know? I'm just now realizing how many foreign students my school really has. Nearly half the school's populous is British/Irish/Australian or German. Every one of my friends, myself excluded, is British/Irish and Nat is Australian. It struck me as odd.
"Hey babe, ready to go?" Nat asked, pulling my earbuds out of my ears gently. I smiled, nodding. We held hands, walking to his Audi R8. I hopped in the passenger seat, texting my mother that I would be home late. I sighed. Something didn't feel right today, but I just couldn't put my finger on it.
We got to the restaurant, a very fancy place called Bestia. It was a quaint, cozy little restaurant and the food was superb. We stayed silent most of the evening, just making small talk here and there. It was nearly 11:30 when we were just driving around and enjoying each other's company. We decided to go to his place and be alone for a while.
I had forgotten that I turned my phone alarm on and was startled when it went off at 6:30 in the morning. "SHIT" I yelled, face palming myself. Nat jolted up in bed and groggily asked what was wrong, to which I replied "it's 6:30. My parents are going to kill me." We quickly dressed, running out the door and jumping into his car. As we drove down the road that fateful morning, things seemed off. And the more I looked around, the more off they seemed. My once beautiful neighborhood, was now in shambles. A wreckage of what it once was.
I threw open my front door, and gasped at the sight in front of me. My house was wrecked, things busted and furniture disheveled. I couldn't see a single soul, but something wicked caught my eye, blood. There was a lot of blood. I frantically searched my house, not finding a single soul.
"MUM DAD SAMMY? ANYONE HOME?" I yelled. Nat helped me search, then we ran to the back yard....worst mistake of my life. My parents were dead on the back yard, skin seeming to have been bitten off, shot wounds in their head. I sank to my feet and sobbed. What did I miss? What happened? Nat stood a good 20 feet away from me, and before I knew what was happening, he was tackled to the ground by my 8 year old brother, but it wasn't playful.
Sammy sank his teeth deep into Nat's neck. "SAMMY, NO! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" I screamed, running over to him, pulling him off. Sammy snarled and growled, but the weirdest part, is he was walking and well, but missing his heart. That's when I knew, this was no longer my annoying baby brother. He tried lunging at me, but I picked up a dagger laying on the lawn, covered in blood, and plunged it deep in his head.
Crying harder, I held my brother in my arms for the final time, but was quickly pulled out of my emotional state when Nat stood up....I watched him take his last breath, and then he just stood up. His eyes were no longer hazel and beautiful, but now they were milky white, barely a trace of color in them. He began snarling at me, too. Limping over to me, with bloodlust in his features. I looked at the man I had fallen in love with, and cried even more. Goodbye, my love, I'll see you again someday. I plunged the knife in his head, and in that moment, my heart sank into a cold, black abyss.
