Gold and flowing, her hair danced with the wind. My chest heaved with each breath I took. She stood gracefully at the edge of the cliff, feeling the air rush past us. She looked back at me and grinned, her pearly white teeth shining in the dark. Moonlight shone on us like a spotlight, as if we are two singers on stage for another song for an invisible audience.
"God," I heaved. She chuckled.
"Let's do this again next week!"
I groaned, and fell on my back rather ungracefully.
"Oh c'mon! Don't be such a baby," She laughed and grabbed my hand to hoist me up. "I mean, just look at this view!"
It was stunning. The moonlight basked everything in a silver glow. We were pretty far up, and you could see the whole forest from up here. There was a huge field right beside the forest. I really don't know it's a field or a big-ass clearing in the forest but that's beside the point. There was also a lake in the middle of the field/clearing, with the clearest blue water you could ever imagine.
"Isn't it a view worth dying for?"
You are someone worth dying for.
"...Yes."
She looked at me quizzically.
"That's a long ass pause."
"I had to decide whether I want to actually die for this view, like, when I get captured and shipped into a Russian gulag and they make me choose, whether go to hell or this place, and whichever I choose, they will have to kill me, and I decided, I'd rather be here than with Satan's smelly toes."
She snorted at my last line.
"That's really noble for you."
"Dude," I looked at her with a faux-incredulous expression, "have you ever smelled Satan's toes? They smell like deep fried rotten garlic mixed with moldy bread!"
"How you pieced together that analogy, I'll never know."
"It's the most exaggerated one I could think of. Anyways, in the Russian gulag, you were there too, and you chose to die for this place so I followed you."
"You'd die for me?" She asked.
"Well," I actually had to look away to hide my burning face, "not per-se... I just didn't want to be within 10 mile radius of Satan's smelly toes. Theories dictate that that was actually the maximum range those toes could be smelled. Once you pass the threshold of the 10-mile radius, its smell will hit you with full force, as if you passed an invisible cloud of rotten garlic fragrance."
"Har-har, you shithead." I could almost hear her rolling her eyes. I looked back at her as she withdrew her phone and played some classical music.
"This here is Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major, Third Movement," she said in a matter-of-factly tone. "I didn't have any waltz on my phone so I improved."
"No need to boast your Wikipedia knowledge egghead."
She giggled at that. She then held out her hand and beckoned me closer.
"C'mon Adam, won't you take me for a dance?" I shrugged and met her hands. She grasped me tightly. The air slowed down to a whisper, the air felt comfy. We swayed gently, from side to side, following our P.E. teacher's instructions from two weeks ago.
