"Hey." Donovan said, looking into the starry night.
"Hey. Did you know that today is our last?" Kirsten said. Not looking away from the beautiful bright stars that they could never see again.
"No. Nobody did. Except for Mr. Mayer.." He said with a laugh. They both laughed afterwords, but then shut up like something kicked them in the stomach.
They both knew today was going to be their last. The Earth was dying out. Humans couldn't find anywhere else to live, and the population dropped even more every hour. Kirsten and Donovan were lucky to be alive at this hour.
"You know, we can run away." Donovan said, looking at Kirsten face, dimly lit by the shining light from the stars.
"Haha. I wish. You know we can't, Donovan."
He stayed silent, and laid down, hands behind his head, staring at the stars once again.
"I found a way." He said a while after.
Kirsten looked at him, and he looked at her as well.
"How? Can we even do that?" She asked, in a shaky voice. She knew it was possible. Just wasn't sure.
"The Shadow Dock." This place was forbidden to be walked into. Let alone, talk about.
"The Shadow Dock? How did you get there?" He sat up, leaning closer to her.
"I found a passage. There was no light at first, and I couldn't see anything, but then I saw a light. I passed through, and it wasn't our Earth that we know of. It seemed safer, calmer, the Earth we knew before."
"That's plain crazy! Plus if the Judges knew, they could take you away and execute you.!" She then lowered her voice down, knowing how loud it was, and turned back to the stars.
She also knew never to talk about execution, and death. It was too sad, too much to risk, especially in their times.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have spoke-"
"It's ok."
They then stayed silent for a while, just when Donovan hovered over Kirsten, as she laid down on the dark grass.
"Kirsten, you know that this is probably the last time we'll get to see each other. And, I really want you to know that-"
Kirsten pulled his head down towards hers, and pressed their lips together. Donovan put his hand on her cheek, and didn't break away.
"I like you." Donovan said, after they broke apart.
"I know." She said, following with a smile.
"Let's do it. Let's run into the Shadow Dock. I want to be with you, longer than just this moment." Kirsten said, holding Donovan's hand.
"Really? You sure?" He said, gripping tighter.
"Yes. You, our future, our freedom, it's worth execution."
"Ok. Let's go."
They both looked at the stars one more time, soaking it in, before getting up and heading to The Shadow Dock.

"There it is." Donovan said, pointing towards the dark passage way.
"Ready?" Kirsten said, staring into his brown eyes that she would try to remember forever, if she didn't get to make it.
"Yeah. I'm ready."
Before they started to walk in, they looked at each other, studying their profiles once more, just before walking into the shadows.
