Chapter 1

5 am
I threw on my sneakers and ran out the door.

I didn't know where I was going but I wasn't going to stop until I couldn't move.

I ran down the empty quiet streets of town.
It was still dark outside.

5 am runs are the time I try to run from my emotions.

After my mother left I started running.

No one knows where she went. But she was too selfish to bring me and my sister

Living with my dad is a nightmare, he's abusive.

I looked down at my watch and saw it was almost 6 o'clock.

Summer vacation started two weeks ago and I'm finally done with high school.

College is the next chapter in my life and I can't wait to leave home.

I turned onto a dirt road that leads to a stream.

I slowed down when the stream came into view, and sat down on a log and kicked around the rocks.

*flashback*

"Alex where'd mom go?"

She turned around in her chair and I could tell that she had been crying. Her eyes were bloodshot and she was sniffling

She took a deep breath "she left"

"Alex what are you talking about? "

I kneeled down so we were eye level

"She left us Juliet what don't you understand about she left. She's gone and didn't even bring us with her" Alex yelled tears started streaming down her face even more

I don't know why I did what I did but I went right over to my dad and slapped him "it's all your fault our mother left us, you are nothing but a monster" I yelled and with that I ran right out of the house and ran until I couldn't go any further

I kept running until I reached a dirt road.

I ran until I came to a stream. One I had never seem before

I sat down on the ground and looked at my reflection in the water.

"How could you leave us. Your know what dad is capable of, you don't care about anyone but yourself" I yelled at  nothing

Tears steamed down my face, and I knew as soon as I got home I would get a beating

*end of flashback*

I was broken out of my thoughts when I heard a twig snap across the stream

I quickly stood up and started running, who knew what's in these woods. I'm not taking any chances.

I looked behind me too make sure nothing or no one was following me

But I was quickly stopped when I ran into something and fell.
