|Melted| Chapter 5:

I woke up to a woman holding and ice pack to my head. It was the school nurse. She was focusing on me and she looked concerned.

She was probably around her late thirties and I wondered why she'd want to be a school nurse instead of a model because she looked beautiful. Her hair was pulled up into a perfectly neat bun on the top of her head. She had bright red lipstick on and a lot of pink blush on her cheeks. Her eyelashes looked fake because of how long and thick they were, but they were as real as can be. As fake as she looked, she was absolutely stunning.

"Hi honey." She said sweetly. Her voice was so gentle and calming.

I blinked repeatedly because it felt like I was being blinded by all the lights. "H-hi." As nice as this lady seemed, I'm too shy to actually make real conversation with her. But I can't help that.

She took the ice pack off my head and smiled again, "how you feelin'?" Her body stayed still as she looked at me, "you dizzy at all?"

I rubbed my head, "not really." I looked around, still confused on what was going on.

She nodded, "that was quite I fall you took there." She laughed a little bit and set the ice pack down on a counter next to a bunch of bottles of pills.

My eyes fell to the ground and I remembered, Daniel pushed me into a girl. I must've really hit my head hard if I ended up in the nurse's office.

"You do know that you got pushed, right?"

I nodded, still too shy to speak.

"That kid got in some trouble. What a jerk..." She shook her head in disgust.

I could tell that she was trying her hardest to make me feel better by the way she kept saying random things.

I took a deep breath, "Daniel? Yeah I'd say he's a jerk." I bit my lip, trying to force the tears back, once again.

"No boy touches a girl like that." She smiled and rubbed my back, "you look like you're feeling better. Let me write you a pass to class dear." She walked over to her desk and wrote on a little half sheet of paper.

"What about my shirt?"

"What about it?" She asked.

"Didn't I fall into a tray of food?"

She chuckled, "oh yes, here's a jacket." Her little hands handed me a black hoodie.

I slipped it on over my head and looked in the mirror. It was a tad big, but I think that's because it's a boys' sweatshirt.

"You only have forty-five minutes let of school, it'll work." She handed me my pass and smiled again.

I nodded, "thanks again." I opened the door and walked down the hall, trying not to cry.

"Hey," she yelled after me. I turned around and looked at her, "don't let anyone hurt you again!"

We both laughed and I continued down the hall.
