MARIE MEDICI IS A SASSY 23 YEAR OLD WOMAN. True to her surname, she has an unhealthy obsession with history and art. She is fresh out of college and has her first job as an art restorer at an old church in Madrid.
Growing up there was nothing she could complain of. She lived in a small house with her parents and younger brother, she went to church on Sundays and she did okay at school. In her home town there was a small ice cream parlor she loved to go to, a park where she and her friends would spend their afternoons playing at, a library with amazing books on good state, lone streets in which she learnt to drive and good people to party with.
If you asked her, the small town life wasn't so bad. She absolutely hated it growing up, but the city's fast life brought a wave of nostalgia every now and then and she did not know how much she loved her small town until her first week of uni.
What she missed the most where her friends. Everyone in her group of friends had their lives resolved, living in different cities, working different jobs and barely had any time to come back home to visit and reunite.
That's why she is laughing at Pete's bad jokes and singing along to Keith's piano. She missed the dorks very often, when she starts to get bored of 100 year's old statues and portraits looking back at her. Not that she'll tell them, but she does feel at ease when all of her friends get together.
She remembers the first day she meet them, it was her day at a new school. She was 7 years old and her family had just moved to the town. Her mom braided her brown hair and forced to wear a huge pink bow Marie absolutely hated. She walked to the classroom while trying to take the bow off when she saw 3 pretty boys sitting by themselves on a table.
The teacher asked her to sit with 2 other girls on a table near by the one the boys where siting in. She smiled at the girls and they said her bow was very pretty and asked if she wanted to be their friends, she said yes straight away, her hate for the bow long forgotten.
When they were doing some coloring, a boy from another table went and took some Crayola's from the nearby boys table without permission and they started protesting and calling for the teacher, but the little thief didn't care as he also went to Marie's table and took some more Crayola's.
Marie, being as short tempered as a 7 year old shouldn't be, stuck her foot out so he would fall. He did not fall but he stumbled upon her feet and looked at her shocked. She took the Crayola's from the boys little hands and gave the boys their Crayola's and the girls theirs.
If the teacher had seen her, she didn't knew, as she never said anything over the incident. But the boys next to her did, and smiled at her. Antoine remembers thinking she was sooo cool he wanted to be like her. Keith thought she was rude but she was also cool. And Pete, Pete was so happy to get green back he did not cared of anything else in the world.
Laura and Sara were smiling so big because Phillipe was the class bully and someone putting him in place meant he will hopefully not bother them again.
Marie doesn't remembers much after it, she just remembers not leaving Sarah and Laura side and the boys eventually made their way to them. Passing and failing tests together, they learnt to ride bikes thanks to Pete and she though them how to draw. They went through heart break and happy moments together and sneaked up to go to the same parties. Keith's parent's dinner was their place to hang out after school and you would rarely see the 6 of them far from each other.
She doesn't remember when she became closer with Antoine than to the other boys, she just remembers that he was her favorite thing to sketch and when Antoine got himself a girlfriend at 16, she felt really jealous. More than she should've had.
She first thought it was the fact that he spent more time with her than he did with them. Then she thought it was because she was the only one single in her group of friends and she just felt bitter. Then one night, -months later after Antoine broke up with the girl and moved to Spain to chase his football dream- while texting him until really late at night, she realized it was because she was in love with him.
