Walking home with Crow's arm around me helping me walk, I never felt like more of a coward. I drifted in and out of consciousness, but I still heard the screaming as we gathered distance away from the disaster zone.
All I knew was that we reached Crow's house his parents were home, and my knee was killing me.
Crow knocked on the door and his mother opened it. She was wearing a pair of jeans and a tank top, with her dark hair pulled back into a long dark ponytail. I could understand her appearance, since she was probably also feeding the animals in their half-barn home.
"She got hurt," Crow tells her, readjusting his hold on me, "and she doesn't know where her sister is."
Mrs. Finn opens the door wider for me. Their barn house is pretty big. There's stalls on the left and
right side. The right side seems to be the animal side, as I notice a white muzzle poking out between one of the stall's bars.
Mrs. Finn rushes into one of the stalls and pulls out a stool for me. Gently, Crow sets me down upon it and I wince.
"What happened?" His mother asks, her eyes darting back and forth at the two of us.
"Tree," I mutter, "seven maybe eight feet.... hit a branch."
"Hunter run and get your father," Mrs. Finn orders. He opens the door and disappears into the thickness of the dark.
