Chapter 1

Kylie's POV

It was just another ordinary day at school. I was sitting alone in my ordinary spot in the back corner of the classroom with one headphone in, listening to Falling in Reverse. No-one ever bothered to sit next to me. I just wasn't "cool" enough for people to like me. Basically, I'm a loner. I don't have any friends at school anymore and sit by myself always.

Just as the bell rang for class to start a boy I had never seen before opened the door and stepped inside. He was tall with a good build. He has blonde shaggy hair and bright blue eyes that looked like the sea. He looked like the surfer type. To say he was hot was an understatement.

As I studied the boy, he moved towards the teacher and got her attention. I removed my earphone so I could listen to them properly. "Listen up class! We have a new student. This is Jacob Miller. Jacob, do you want to tell us about yourself?" Mrs Rigby, our class teacher asked with a warm smile. "Ok... Like she said I'm Jacob, but you can call me Jake. I moved here from Australia..." He said with an accent that reminded me of Heath Ledger. Oh how I loved accents. I snapped out of my trance as I noticed he has stopped speaking and was now walking down the aisle to find a seat. I shoved my earphone back into my ear, concealing it with my long black hair and decided to zone out again, while doodling on my blank page.

Jake's POV

I could feel the butterflies (more like eagles) flying around my stomach as I tried to gain the courage to open the door and walk into my new classroom at my brand new school. I took one more deep breath as I finally opened the door and stepped inside. I looked around the room and immediately froze when my eyes landed on a girl sitting in the back corner of the room. Her shining black hair fell over her chocolate brown eyes as she gawked over me. I smirked and looked away from her before walking towards the teacher's desk to announce myself.

"Excuse me?" She looked up from her laptop and smiled at me.

"Oh yes, you're Jacob Miller, right?" She asked me kindly.

"Um, yeah..." I replied, the eagles once again flying.

"Good, good... I'm Mrs Rigby." She stood up and addressed the class. "Listen up! We have a new student. This is Jacob Miller. Jacob, do you want to tell us about yourself?" I felt like telling her to fuck off and leave me alone, but decided I would probably be kicked out. "Ok... Like she said I'm Jacob, but you can call me Jake. I moved here from Australia with my mum. I really like America and hope that I am here for a long time." As I was speaking, I glanced towards the back or the classroom again and saw the girl's eyes on me again. Mrs Rigby cleared her throat then spoke, "Very nice Jacob. Now have a seat." I walked through the rows of desks, heading towards the girl in the corner, when someone grabbed my hand. I look down to see an obnoxious blonde girl clawing me arm with her perfectly manicured fingers and her caked up face. "Hey there hottie, sit here with me." and with that she yanked me down into the seat next to her as I stole one last glance at the black haired beauty.

Kylie's POV

I glanced up once more as Jacob walked through the rows of desks. It looked like he was trying to head towards me, but that would just be crazy. Just then Sophia, the head cheerleader, grabbed his arm. He looked down at her, and then sat down next to her. Of course! No-one would ever resist Sophia's charm. What he didn't know was that she used guys for pleasure then dropped them for someone new. It's not like I care that he likes her. I mean who wouldn't? She was the definition of popularity at this school; he'd want to get his reputation up straight away. I stealthily pulled my iPod out of my pocket and changed the song to Goodbye Graceful before turning back to my notebook and zoning out of class as Mrs Rigby started lecturing about God knows what.

Jake’s POV

This girl was so annoying! I was trying to pay attention to the teacher but Sophia, which I now know is the head cheerleader, just wouldn't shut up! I glanced back at the girl in the corner for about the hundredth time during the lesson. God, she is beautiful! "Jakey! I was asking you something!" Sophia's high pitch whisper rang through my ears. Shit! I had been staring at the girl for ages!

I looked at Sophia and tried to speak as politely as possible, a lot of effort on my behalf. "Oh, yes... Umm... And what was that?" Her forest green eyes went from happy to a hard glare in seconds. "I was asking you whether you had a girlfriend!" Omg, this chick's voice is so damn high pitched and annoying! "Well, what do you think? Do you think a long distance relationship from Australia to here would work? No." I said slightly irritated. Just then the bell rang. I jumped out of my seat and was out of there quicker than anyone. I had to get away before she would follow or drag me anywhere.

Kylie's POV

This class was going way too slow. The teacher was going on and on about something to do with triangles and the angles within them. I wasn't paying much attention; my gaze kept slowly sweeping over to where Jake and Sophia were. As I glanced towards them once more I saw Sophia leaning closer to Jake and putting her hands on his arm, while talking to him. God, I wish I could rip her hands off of him and pull him away from her. But of course, that would never happen and if it did, he'd think I'm being weird and treat me as an outcast like everyone else and everyone else would tease me forever.

I didn't know what she was saying because of the racket going on and the fact I was listening to Listen Up loudly. Just then Jake glanced back at me. I bet she told him something bad about me. It was probably about how I was an ugly loser with no friends. I looked down, blushing. When I was sure the redness on my cheeks was gone I looked back up at him. He had looked away. Yep, she definitely said something bad. Finally the bell rang to save me from my misery. Jake hipped up and practically ran out the room before I had even had time to close my book. I wonder why he was in such a hurry. I sighed and began packing up my pencil case and books. Of course, I was last out of the room, as usual. I slowly made my way to the front and smiled at Mrs Rigby before heading out the door and towards the cafeteria.

After getting myself an apple and a bottle of mango juice from the line and paying the lady at the till, I walked out of the cafeteria and to my special spot, hidden behind an old oak tree that I leaned against, a patch of green grass that was surrounded by flower beds. I opened the juice and took a sip before pulling my sketch book out of my bag. I looked up at the sky and leant into the tree before beginning to sketch a random eye.
