Day Thirteen:
Drew frowned down at his phone, eyes scanning over the text he'd gotten from Wesley. They'd been talking normally throughout the morning as they always did- with an edge of awkwardness because of the night before but nothing too bad- when Keaton had come up in the conversation.
I think you need to talk to him more. One on one. I don't think he likes how dependant we are on each other.
The nineteen year old could understand that, Keaton probably felt a bit like a third wheel a lot of the time. Drew considered the light brunet to be a little brother and a best friend, but he realized that they hadn't talked together one on one for a while, and almost never about something that wasn't Wesley. He honestly couldn't think of a recent time where they'd just talked together about general guy stuff. No wonder Keaton didn't like how close he and Wesley were getting.
I'll take that into consideration Drew replied, and he honestly did, because a moment later he was calling the Stromberg household.
"Hello?"
"Keaton," Drew stood up to go into the privacy of his bedroom, sitting down on his bed. "Hey, how have you been?"
"Fine, I guess," the boy sighed. "I'll just go get Wesley..."
"No, Keat, I was wanting to talk to you," Drew stopped him, almost smiling at how sullen the other boy had sounded. How had the blond not noticed how bitter Keaton was?
"...Really?" the light brunet sounded surprised and that made Drew feel bad. "But... uh, why?"
"Because you're one of my best mates?" Drew suggested. "Because you're practically my brother and I want to know how you've been?"
There was a long pause and then Keaton sighed, and there was the sound of a door closing nearby. "Well, Wesley found out about... you know."
It took a moment but it clicked, and Drew remembered the awful day many months ago when he'd been being a bit of a dick with Keaton and mucking around, and the kid's sleeves had ridden up and he'd seen all the crisscrossed scars marring the skin of the boy's wrists. He'd almost been tempted to throttle the youngest Stromberg because fuck, wasn't Wesley's anorexia enough? But they'd had a long talk and agreed not to tell the older brother, both thinking the dark brunet wouldn't be able to handle that kind of information.
He wasn't sure how Wesley would be able to handle it now. Sure, the guy was a hell of a lot better than he used to be, but finding out your little brother hurts himself...
"How'd it happen?" he asked quietly, before adding, "and are you okay?"
"Shouldn't you be asking if Wesley's okay?" Keaton shot back bitterly.
"Keaton," Drew said softly. "Look, I know I've kind of had my hands full with your brother and I know I haven't paid much attention to you, but I do care about you, okay? And I'm sorry I've been so focused on Wesley. That's going to change, dude."
For a while the younger boy said nothing, before he sighed loudly. "Okay, whatever, you're forgiven."
Well. It seemed holding grudges didn't run in the family.
"So how'd it happen?" Drew asked again.
"I was being stupid, I wasn't careful," Keaton said quietly. "I stretched and my sleeves slipped down in front of him. He started yelling at me, then got all weepy and started apologizing like it was his fault or something."
