Today was the best day in the world... not. Not only did your alarm not go off, you didn't eat breakfast or dinner, you failed two of your test, and to put the cherry on top your boyfriend dumped you. But it wasn't anything special, he was a jerk.
After you stuffed your homework in your book bag, you pulled out your phone to call your mom.
"Hey mom, where are you?" you asked.
"I'm sorry sweetheart, but I have to work late tonight. You have to walk home." she said.
"Oh, okay. I love--"
"Okay great, see you!" She hurriedly said before she hung up.
You groaned in frustration and walked towards the exit of the school. You stated walking home and it started raining, hard. You ran towards the nearest building, which happened to be your favorite cafe. Before you could go through the door a car flew past you and right in a puddle.
"Why me?" You grumbled in frustration.
You pushed open the door to the cafe and the scent of coffee instantly relaxed you. After ordering your favorite coffee, you went to the farthest chutney of the store and pulled out a book.
You were so focused on your book that you didn't notice two boys sit at the table in front of you. You looked at them over the top of your book and caught the eyes of a boy with nice hair. To say that the boy was cute was an understatement. He sent you a wink, and you rolled your eyes at him. His friend came up behind him and swatted him on his head.
"Ouch!" He cried
"Vernon, leave the girl alone." He said. You looked up from your book again to see the most beautiful boy in front of you. "Sorry about him." He said with a soft smile. Quickly, you pulled your book in front of your face to hide your blushing cheeks. The stated talking, and you refocused on your book, not for long though.
"Dude go! Just do it man." You heard Vernon say.
"But what if she says no?" His friend whisper shouts. You rolled your eyes for what felt like the hundredth time that day. "No I can't, I'm nervous!" He says. You giggled from behind your book.
"Fine, I'll do it." You heard Vernon's voice say.
"No! I'll do it!" The mystery boy said. Just then you felt the chair in front of you move.
"Hi, I noticed that your cup was empty, so I got you another one." He said with smiling eyes. He pushed the cup towards you and nodded his head at the drink as if saying "go on drink!" You eyed the drink suspiciously. You didn't want to drink it because he was nothing but a stranger, but you didn't want to be rude. He nodded his head towards the cup again with a warm smile on his face. Giving up your act, you drunk from the cup and hummed in delight.
"Thank you, uh, uhm..."
"Oh! Joshua, my name is Joshua. And you are?"
"Y/N, thank you Joshua." You said before gathering your things to leave.
"Wait!" Joshua yelled before you could get up. "You should start here until the rain stops. I'll sit here and keep you company." He offered.
"But what about your friend?" You asked. You looked behind him to see that Vernon wasn't at the table anymore. "I don't know Joshua..." You said while checking the time. You looked at his nervous face, then back at the window. "Okay, okay, I'll stay." You said while sitting back down.

The both of you talked while the rain continued to hit the sidewalk. During the time you found out that he lives with twelve of his friends. He also mentioned that he liked to sing and play guitar. He was really cute, especially when he smiled, or laughed, and his eyes crinkled. And every time you spoke and he would pay so much attention to your every word. You slowly began to notice that you felt extremely comfortable around him.
This guy is a real gentleman you thought. At the moment he was telling you an embarrassing story about the time he got lost at the supermarket.
"It was so embarrassing." He muttered with tinted cheeks. You smiled at him. He was truly adorable. "What?" He shed with a playful smile.
"What?" You asked while snapping out of your trance.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" He smirked. You felt your cheeks heat up and you began to feel your hands get clammy.
"I don't know... you just - you just looked really nice while you were talking, cute actually." You said. His smirk turned into a smile and his gaze on you became stronger. He opened his mouth to say something, but an old lady came to your table.
"You two make a beautiful couple." She said.
"Oh, I'm sorry, but we aren't a couple." You kindly said.
"But you'd make a beautiful one." She said before winking at you guys. When she left you noticed that Joshua had a disappointed looked on his face.
"Are you okay?" You asked.
"Yeah... hey look, the rain stopped." He said.
"Yeah, it did." You said, cringing at your awkwardness. You slowly started to gather your things, and Joshua stood up from his seat.
"May I walk you home?" He scratched the back of his neck.
"What?"
"Can I walk you home? It wouldn't be very gentleman - like to let you walk by yourself." He said.
"Sure" you simply replied.
The two of you walked into the cool breeze that lingered in the evening sky. You guys walked side by side very slowly, taking your sweet time. The wind picked up and you shivered.
"Are you cold?" Joshua asked.
"Oh, not really, I'm okay." You said. He looked at you with concern in his eyes before shrugging off his sweater.
"Here, you can wear it." He handed you the sweater/jacket.
"No Joshua please, you'll be cold!" You protested.
"I insist, I'll be okay." He said. He took the jacket from your hands and helped you skip into the sweater.
"Thanks." You whiskered. Your cheeks went crimson. You began walking, and it began silent, but it wasn't awkward. It was a comfortable silence, it was quite refreshing.
"Well, this is my home." You said stopping in front of the gate to your house. "Thank you for walking me home Joshua." You said.
"It was my pleasure." He says while pulling you into a warm hug. You went to pull away, but he tightened his grip.
"Are you seeing anyone?" Joshua asked you.
"Uh...n-no." You answered. Immediately your cheeks started to burn.
"Nice." He muttered before pulling away. He opened your gate and allowed you to walk in. Once you walked past he closed it and leaned on the gate. "Thank you for allowing me to be in your presence today." Joshua said.
"Ugh, why are you such a gentleman?" You playfully groaned. The two of you laughed and he started to walk away. "Wait! What about your jacket?" You called out.
"Keep it, it looks better on you." He replies without looking back.
Before you went in the house, you slipped your shoes. The you ran towards the window to watch him walk away. Once he was out of sight, you went towards the stairs that led to your room. Before you could climb the stairs a piece of late fell from the pocket of his sweater. You bent dish to pick it up and held it between your fingers.
After running up to your room, you jumped onto your bed and unfolded the paper. Your likes twitched into a some as you read the card
"If you could sister any of your precious time, then you should call me. - Joshua xxx-xxx-xxxxx"
