The next morning I awoke to the howls of wind and thunder as a strong storm rolled in. The windows rattled and shacked as I threw on my rain gear and walked outside. I was determined to get the rest of the field done come rain or shine.
It was utterly miserable as the rain down poured and it got even worse as the wind picked up making that rain sting my face even more.
Suddenly a loud crack was heard as I looked up and a branch came crashing down on me knocking me out cold.
It was late afternoon when I finally came to and saw Leah sitting next to me putting a moist cloth on my forehead. I then turned my head a bit to see Jeb sitting at my table looking at me worried.
Oh my head what happened I asked her. She looked down and set the cloth down. Marcus a tree branch broke and landed on your head. You were in pretty bad shape when I came up here and luckily Mr. Jeb was coming up to see if you needed help with anything and saw what had happened. We carried you in and patched you up the best we could.
I looked down and frowned knowing I did the number one mistake. I'm sorry you guys had to do all that work it was foolish of me to work during such a bad storm I should of just taken the day off.
Just then Jeb got up and walked over and placed his hand on my shoulder. Don't worry about bud we learn from our mistakes and your still learning.
He smiled at me then turned to Leah. I think I'll be on my way now I'll leave him in your hands. She nodded at him and smiled as he left.
Now then Marcus you just stay right there alright I'm going to cook you something to eat and help pick up this place a bit since it's never a good idea to leave someone alone after suffering a head injury.
I looked at her and sighed. Alright I'm not going to fight you on the matter. She smiled at me and rolled up her sleeves. Oh Marcus by the way I'm probably going to be staying the night tonight since Dr. Harvey couldn't make it out here he suggested that I stay here just in case there was a problem.
I nodded and pointed to the cabinet that had a spare futon mattress and blankets since talking just made my head hurt more.
Leah hummed as she started to cook. It smelled really good and made my stomach growl.
Well look at that a set for two in dishes she said. I smiled as I listened to her.
Tell me Mr. Marcus did you plan to get hurt so I could come and take care of you and some form of a date? She said to me playfully as she began to pick up the place a bit.
It was not my intention to do so but I'll take what I can get I said playfully back. She then smiled and pulled a chair over to the bed and sat down beside me with a book in hand.
Well since the power is out I could read you a story. This one is a good one though A little boy I use to know here use to read it to me all the time when I was visiting during the summer.
I smiled and nodded as she opened it up and began to read to me aloud. It felt nice to be cared for by someone other than family. As I listened the story began to sound familiar to me suddenly it hit me.
I sat up quickly as lighting flashed and turned to her. You're her! The little girl I use to play with during the summer! Quickly she closed the book and looked at me. What do you mean? She asked me. I pointed to my dresser.
Up on the dresser there's a picture there could you please take a look at it. She got up and looked at then suddenly dropped it. Oh my Yoba it is you. She said blushing as she bent over to pick it back up.
She then walked back over and sat down next to me smiling more. So I guess we have a lot of catching up to do huh?
We both smiled and laughed finally recovering a piece of past and finding out we were once child hood crushes.
As we ate the stew she made we talked about what had happen during the years we were apart I told her about my life in the city and she told me about her art career and before you knew it I was starting to feel better.
So it was late and she had settled into the futon and smiled at me. You know Marucs I'm kind of glad that tree limb came crashing down on you. Tomorrow is going to be different you know. I smiled as I looked up at the ceiling
It certainly will be and all for the better. I said as I began to close my eyes. She smiled and turned out the light.
Yes for both of us she whispered as we fellasleep.
