By the shores of unseed bay a girl of the age 10 sat there with her feet in the water. Her blonde hair streaming out behind her and her eyes blue as the sea, she wore a white frilly cotton dress. She was a beach girl she spent every one of her waking hours by the sea. Her mum died when she was 6 leaving her dad to look after their daughter by himself. He was kind to his daughter and showed her many things about the sea, how to sail a boat, what sea creatures are dangerous, he taught her so many things. But today he was absent, he said he would just go to town for some food as they were running short but he never came back. So now the girl sat by the rocks near the dirt road waiting for him to come back, eventually he never came. So as the sun was going down she set off back home. It was only a two minute walk and she loved the sea at night. It was pitch black, but you could hear it by your side swishing and splashing. She was almost near the house when she heard a piercing cry coming from just in front of her in the water. She walked forward a few more spaces and saw right there in the water was a man, it was her father. She looked down at him wandering how he got down here so fast without her noticing. Suddenly right out at sea was a loud boom! A ship was lit up by a massive explosion from inside it. What was her dad doing on that ship? She looked down at him his face contorted in pain.
“What’s wrong dad?” she asked him.
“Sarah is that you?”
“I’m right here, where are you hurt I can fix it.”
“No, no I’m done for. But you are not, these are dangerous days…” he took a deep shuddering breath “I want you to go, run, hide if you must just get away from them,” he pointed out at sea to the ship. She finally saw the other ship which had caused the explosion before. It’s black sails flapping in the wind. Her father turned back to her “they must not find you ok, you are precious, here take this,” from inside his jacket he produced a peculiar box. “Use this well and it will show you to what…what,” he breathed in short gasps of air.
“Dad!” she shouted, she leant forward to hear the last few words.
“What you want.” And her father died right there in her arms. She looked down and noticed the plank of wood sticking out of his chest that she failed to notice before. She cried right there on the beach her head resting on her father’s chest. Eventually she had cried herself to sleep on the sandy shores of the beach.
