I don't believe in love at first sight,

Nor in kismets and soulmates.

I don't believe in those sparks and butterflies,

Nor in the red string of fate.

I don't belive in destiny, even if it's my first name.

I don't believe in those lovey-dovey stuffs

until he came into my life and gave me a reason to do so.

15 years ago, it was a sunny day - a very bright day that I never thought would be the darkest day in my entire life.

"Tin-tin, bati na tayo. Lilibre kita ng ice candy, wag ka na iyak."

"Ikaw kasi Ton-ton eh! Kurot mo pisngi ko. *sobs* Red na oh!"

A five year old boy whom was my bestfriend slash soulmate I guess, wiped the tears flowing on my cheeks using his tiny fingers. I was taken back a little, afraid of being pinched again. He just gave his sweetest smile - that innocent smile that I would never forget. I could still vividly remember how he pleaded just to be forgiven. He always buys me an ice candy whenever I cry. 

"Sige na, dito ka lang ha. Bibili lang ako."

"Eh wag mo ko iwan Ton-ton. Takot ako."

"Wag kang mag-alala. Di naman kita iiwan eh at tsaka babalik naman ako. Bibili lang ako ng ice candy."

I wasn't able to speak up when he ran as fast as he could for my ice candy, my favorite. Then I thought to myself, "I will cry again tommorow so that he'll buy me an ice candy. Yehey, everyday ice candy!" I knew back then that he cannot resist me when I cry. He''d definitely buy me one. All I need is to cry.

But I never thought that he would be the reason why I would cry.

Blood, blood is every where. People were screaming. I was just staring. Ton-ton was drowning with his own blood. I cannot move, seems like my feet were glued on the ground. All I saw was a big truck that overran him. They said that the driver was drunk. Thus, all my memories of him shattered seeing him lying - lifeless.

"Tumawag kayo ng ambulansya! Nasagasaan yung bata!"

"Tulong! Tulong! May nasagasaan!"

"Naku po! Anak ni Mareng Louella yan! Diyos ko!"

I stood there for a long time. I wasn't able to utter even a single word for help. I could still remember how blood came flowing on his cheeks. I was not able to wipe it like what he did for me. He's just there... lying. Then an ambulance came to rescue him. His eyes were open but I know he's still alive. He said he'll never leave me. 

"Ineng, umuwi ka na. Hinahanap ka na siguro ng nanay mo."

Since that day, I never heard any news about him. Some said, he's dead but they didn't have any proof. Some said, he's alive but he's nowhere to be found. Nobody was there to buy me ice candy whenever I cry. And since that day, I did not believe soulmates and love. I became dense and numb. They do not exit, so do I.

My time never moved away from that day. I lived in the past 15 years since that day. The moments before and during the accident never left my mind. I could still see him lying on the road whenever I close my eyes. I could still recall how he promised me that he'd stay by my side. I still hold on to that promise - a promise that would never be forgotten.
