First day of school. Not a big deal for people who have already attended the school, not a big deal for the people who actually have friends. I was freaking out because I didn't have any friends, the only reason for that was I just moved. My old friends lived half way across the country so online chat was the only way to talk to them with out racking up my families phone bill.
"Nina Foster, please follow me to your homeroom," A lady with black hair appeared in front of me and beckoned me to follow her, "As you know I'm your counselor Veronica James, I can't wait to get to know you better Nina, also call me Veronica."
From what I gathered she was actually a cool adult, probably around her early thirties or late twenties. Not to mention probably popular with guys, with her tan skin that fit her well and her captivating light brown eyes. I followed Veronica down the hall obediently with a nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach.
"So Nina you're from New York correct?" Veronica started to strike up conversation, breaking the silence that was all around us.
"Y-yeah, it sure is different in California though, especially temperature wise." I smiled as Veronica laughed.
"I'd assume so, but the important question is if you're actually enjoying it?" Veronica turned a corner and started to walk up a flight of stairs. That's when I realized the importance of trying to memorize where I was going.
"Um...well I guess I am enjoying it a bit...I just hope my classes turn out to be okay." I frowned at the thought of having mean and annoying classmates.
"I looked over you're grades, even though you're not a straight A student it's gonna be alright."
Guess she didn't get that I was worried about my classmates behavior rather than my grades. I sighed and continued walking around with Veronica who chatted away, I only answered a few times since most of the talk was about herself. I didn't take it as a self-centered way, I was pretty sure she just wanted me to get to know her.
"Alright! Here's your homeroom! I'll tell your teacher that you're here, don't be nervous either Nina." Veronica flashed a grin before opening the door and disappearing into the classroom.
I stood there for a few seconds wishing to just disappear or become one with the floor. Finally Veronica appeared and gestured for me to walk in.
"Go on Nina, be confident! Also come visit me whenever you like." Veronica waved and strode down the hall.
Well Nina, now or never. Even with my mind yelling never, I opened the door and threw a false smile onto my face.
I was met with a bunch of eyes, there was probably twenty-four people in the classroom staring at me. Twenty-five counting the teacher, who was smiling ever so kindly at me. I kinda froze for a second before entering the room fully and shuffling up to the teachers desk, letting the door close itself.
"Welcome Nina, I'm your homeroom teacher Mrs. Hook, please introduce yourself and tell us about you." Mrs. Hook kept the smile and sat down on her swivel chair.
"Um...I'm Nina Foster...uh I'm from New York...nice to meet you all?" To me I sounded so unsure of who I was, where I was, and what in the world was coming out of my mouth.
My eyes instantly landed on two girls in the front row who giggled and started texting. I took this as bad and was going to be stupid by saying something along the lines of 'I also hate people who talk about people behind their backs'. Thankfully Mrs. Hook jumped in before any words left my mouth.
"Alright then Nina please take a seat next to June, June raise your hand so Nina can see where you are."
A hand slowly made its way into the air and I hurried toward it, this June girl sat in the third row in a seat by the door. What I found odd was the space between June and the other person who sat there, usually the space would be at the end. Whatever the reason I sat in that spot and organized my stuff, all while June stared at me.
