The week went by slower than usual. No doubt that it's because I've been in an extra shitty mood. I don't know why, but I guess to have ups in life, you have to have the downs first. My mother's been neutral; she hasn't done anything too crazy. She has been staying out longer though, and I'm not sure what to think of that. Is that a bad thing? Maybe something amazing is coming my way?
And on this Saturday morning I figured out exactly what that was.
"SURPRISE!" I hear several voices yell.
My heart stops and I dart up, grabbing the nearest item to use as a weapon. Instead of the murderer I expected to see, before my eyes were three faces that are very familiar to me.
"Oh, Olivia. You're not gonna assault me with a stuffed penguin, are you?" Andrew Baker, my best male friend, laughs.
I roll my eyes and lay back down.
"Don't fucking scare me like that.""But Liv, that just smooshes all the fun!" Christy's perky morning voice insisted. "And who wouldn't want a little fun on their birthday?"
I shoot up. "Are you serious?"
Johanna sits in my swivel chair."What's wrong?"
"Is it really the 18th already?!" How is it even possible that I could forget my own birthday? I pick up my phone and sure enough, the date shown on the screen was June 18th. I put my face into the palms of my hands.
"You seriously forgot?" Andrew laughs again.
"I know I'm an idiot." I say, slightly muffled.
I must've been so caught up with working and worrying about my mom that the dates completely went over my head. I must be a moron if I can't even remember the date when I was literally granted life.
"Holy shit." I look up. "I'm eighteen. I'm an adult."
"Well, what can I say?" Johanna says as she sits on the edge of my bed. "You're fuckin' old."
I throw my stuffed penguin at her. "Shut up."
"But really though," Andrew says. "Get up you're going out."
I give him a look. "I don't think you should be bossing the birthday girl around."
"Do you want to spend today flopped on your bed?"
I laugh. "Of course not. But get out of my room then, I need to get dressed."
I picked out simple black leggings, a sky blue long sleeved t-shirt, and my high top white converse, then putting my hair up in my classic ponytail. I check the time; 12:12. It's noon. I wonder what my friends have planned.
"Wow, you dress like the most basic white girl I have ever seen." Andrew teases as I walk out of my room.
I force a smile. "Thanks." I say sarcastically. "So where are we going?"
"That is for us to know and you to find out." Johanna smirks.
"You're really gonna make me play guessing games?" I groan.
