Laurels POV

I sat in the passenger seat of the Impala and listened to the music Dean had blaring. It was a nice day.
"Clear blue skies." I said, looking out the window.
"The perfect day for a drive." Dean said.
He looked over at me and smiled. It was something Dean always said to me whenever the weather was nice. On the days we didn't have a case, we would go driving. Sam always stayed behind. I think he liked being out of the car as much as possible, since we were kind of always in it.
"How long do you think it will be until we get another case?" I asked, looking over at him. He was still smiling as he sang along to the radio. He loved the open road.
"Probably a couple days. Maybe a few hours. We just need to find it. Do you think you're ready for another case?" He looked at me, concern on his face.
"Dean, I'm fine!" I sighed. "Yeah, I shot someone, but she was gonna kill Sam, and then you... probably me too. And she was a witch! What's the difference between her and a vampire? Both are monsters." I paused to catch my breath before continuing my rant. "I know I should feel guilty or something, or at least that's what you and Sam think, but I don't. It was life or death. I chose life."
Dean nodded. "Laurel, I'm not mad at you. I don't think you should feel bad, or feel any differently. You're right, she was a monster and she was gonna kill us. You saved us. So thank you." He put his hand on my shoulder. "I just want to make sure you're okay. You're only 17."
I looked out the window, staring at the field next to us. "Yeah," I said. "Seventeen."
I could feel Deans eyes on me for what felt like hours but was really only a few seconds. Still, he probably burned a hole in my jacket with his stare. My birthday was in a week, but I never celebrated it before. Why start now?
"Let's go get a burger." Dean suggested.
"Why?"
"I'm hungry."
"You're always hungry."
"Then let's get food."
I laughed. "Okay, fine. We will go get a burger. Should we get Sam first?"
Dean shook his head and waved it off. "He's probably looking for a case. We'll bring him back a salad or something."
Dean took a sharp right then and began speeding down the dirt road to get to the main one. We had been driving for only a few minutes when his phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Dean." I could her Sams voice through the receiver. "You're with Laurel, right? Put me on speaker."
Dean set his phone on the dash and hit a button. "You're on speaker."
"I think I found a case."
Dean nodded. "Knew it." He whispered, causing me to laugh.
"What do ya got, Sam?" I asked.
"Two days ago there was a body found in the woods, stomach torn open. Yesterday, a jogger found another one on the side of the road."
"Same thing?" Dean asked.
"Same thing."
"Vengeful spirit?" I asked.
"Possibly. That's what I'm thinking." Dean said.
"As long as it's not a vampire I'm cool." I laughed and slouched back in my seat. I've been killing vampires for years and I know it's helping, but God was it boring.
"What state?" Dean asked.
Sam was silent for a second while he looked. "Fort Dodge, Iowa."
"We're on our way back now." Dean said. He did a sharp u-turn and sped down the road, heading towards the bunker.
"Okay. See you soon."
"Bye, Sammy." Dean said.
"Bye!" I yelled into the phone. I could hear Sam laugh. He said a quick goodbye and hung up.
"Or a few minutes." I laughed. There was no end to this job.

Deans POV

I threw the last bag in the trunk and walked back into the bunker.
"You ready?" I looked at Sam and Laurel. Laurel nodded and ran up the steps, flinging open the door. She was eager for another hunt. I turned and followed close behind as Sam shut everything down. We walked out the door and stared at Laurel, sitting in the drivers seat.
"Nope. Backseat." I said, walking towards the drivers side.
"Come on! You always said you wanted me getting better! Now is the perfect time for that! And when was the last time you slept anyways? Catch up on some sleep. I'll drive with Sam." She gave me one of her winning smiles and puppy dog eyes, something she picked up from Sam. I heard Sam chuckle as he got into the passenger seat.
"I can stand here all day. You're not going anywhere. I have the keys." I smiled and took a step back, crossing my arms. Laurel stared at me and then looked at the wheel. The car started and she grinned, looking back at me.
"How did-?" I patted my front pockets. "You swiped my keys!" I stared at Laurel. Sams laughter filled the space around us.
"Yeah, when I ran by you to come out here." She laughed. "Come on! Just for a mile or two! If I crash your car I will walk the rest of the way."
"You can't crash my baby."
"You crashed her into me, remember?"
I nodded. She got me there. But she also ran in front of me. "Next time I'll make sure I watch for the signs that say 'vampire hunter crossing'." I opened the door and climbed into the back seat. "Just... start slow."
She nodded and looked back at me. "Seatbelt."
I sat back and put it on, hoping I wouldn't really need it. She began driving, slow and steady. She was actually a decent driver. Much better than me. I sped down the road when I got the chance to. She didn't do that. I fell asleep in the backseat of the car and woke up four hours later. Sam was sleeping in the front seat. I looked at Laurel. She had both hands on the wheel and a smile on her face.
"Turn right in two miles."
I looked over at the phone sitting on the dash. She was using her GPS to get to where we needed to go.
"I told you, you could ask me or Sam for help with directions."
She jumped a bit at the sound of my voice. "I'm alright. I didn't want to wake either of you. No offense, but you both look like shit. I found a gas station a few miles back and filled up. I tried asking the cashier for directions but I don't think he could tell his left from his right, so I just pulled it up on my phone."
I laughed. "Do you want me to drive?"
"What, you don't trust me?"
I shook my head. "No, I trust you. You've proven that. You've just been driving for four hours."
She shrugged. "I kinda like it, to be honest. It's peaceful."
I smiled. "I know what you mean."
I let Laurel drive for another hour before I had her switch with me. She looked tired.
"So, I was thinking you and Sam could check out the morgue when we get there. Maybe talk to the coroner and figure out what happened?"
I nodded. "Sounds like a plan. You're not coming?"
"Actually, while you guys go check out the bodies, maybe I could talk to the families? I did a bit of research before we left. If you drop me off at one house, I can talk to them and walk to the other one. It's not that far. I'll just say I'm with the paper."
"I don't know if you going alone is the best idea." I said.
"Dean." She sighed. "I have been hunting alone for years. I won't even be hunting! I will be talking to the family. Please? It would be faster for us you know."
I sighed. "I'll think about it."
She smiled and sat back in her seat.
"We have about an hour left. Why not take a nap?"
"You didn't wake me up last time."
"I'll wake you up."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
"Good."
With that, she drifted off.
