Olive POV
I put together my outfit the day before so I could easily get dressed right in the morning. I don't care that I sound girly to put together my outfit the day before, probably because I act like a girl, but I do hide it to not be such a "disgrace". Also, I need to make sure every outfit looks perfect and makes me fit in with the cool kids. I didn't know what the cool kids "normal" was because this was my first day, so I decided on a bland Nike jacket and track pants. I always felt the need to blend in, to not let anyone know. Especially because behind the mask of a best friend is a backstabbing -----.
I walk to school with my brothers and sisters walking beside me like little ducklings. Thank God they do not wear a hijab, then every Trumpet supporter would know and I would not easily blend in. I bet every single one of them is a Trumpet supporter. Bunch of hillbillies.
I drop the last one off and quickly run to the middle school. I need to get there 15 minutes before school starts so I can play basketball. I see a wall covered in backpacks so I add mine to the pile. I run to the courts but a tall black girl with fake hair gets in the way. She smiles then continues to check me out, whereas I feel nauseous and just want to get over to those cute boys. God, now you already know my biggest secret. Guess I'm not so good at hiding it.
"Hey there!" she says to me. Her hand runs through her hair but she grins for me. I fake a smile and try to walk away from her. I begin to panic when I see a big group of girls walk towards me, each and every one of them checking me out. I began to panic when someone suddenly grabbed me from behind. I immediately threw them off (quick reflexes) and ran towards the courts.
-------------english class------------
I sit down but the teacher yells at me to "STAND IN THE BACK OF THE CLASS LIKE HOW EVERYONE ELSE IS." I get up, my face flushed and a boy named Tammy greeted me.
"You're gay" He wrinkled his nose at me as he looked me up and down. He saw my scared expression and said "YOU'RE GAY" even louder. I tried to ignore him but I knew that would be hard because I have to pretend to be his friend. He is the star basketball player here and I need to keep my cool.
"No I'm not." I shot back at him. I crossed my arms and waited for the English teacher to announce our damn seats.
-----------lunch---------
I stand in the lunch line with my "friends". They are all so straight it makes me nauseous. The big group of girls suddenly come our way and once again I tried to blend in. The relatively shorter one kisses Tammy but I turn away as quickly as I can. Straight relationships are disgusting.
"Aiee!" A jab hits my back and I turn around to see a boy he same height as me punching the air. His hair is everywhere and he is wearing a grandpa turtleneck with bootcut jeans and plain shoes. But somehow, it looks adorable on him. He looks up and checks me out, but quickly recovers and punches the air. He keeps punching but I can't look away. He is HOT. I checked him out so many times I worried that he would notice. 'Cut it out Olive he's too cute to be gay' I thought to myself. But I don't care.
"What?" I was so busy staring at the muscle on his arm that I didn't notice him giving me a weird look.
"Oh, er..."
"No need to say sorry. I know I'm hot." I flushed; that was not the response I expected. He flexed and threw a look at me to make sure I was watching. I was, obviously.
"Do you want to play basketball with Joodle and I at recess?" I quickly nodded, I needed to spend more time with this boy. I got lost in his eyes, a dark chocolate brown. He didn't seem to mind though, he just kept punching the air.
"Hey babe" a voice behind me startles me; I hate when people come up from behind me. A Japanese girl with red hair casually drapes her arm around my shoulder, but I immediately throw her off. She gasps; she is obviously not immune to rejection.
"It's your first day and you already have a girlfriend?" Mikey teases. He looks a little disappointed but he laughs anyway.
"Yeah Mikey, you jealous? Nobody can ever imagine you getting a girl!" the girl says with a raised voice. She looks annoyed but I glare at her, who the hell is the girl and why does she think I'm her 'babe'? Disgusting!
"I don't know who you are." I say to her. She grins and offers me her hand to shake. I refuse.
"I'm Won-Ton. You're Olive, and I know that because you are the cutest boy who has ever stepped foot in this darn school." She flips her hair and she waits for my response.
"LUNCH IS READY" The lunch-lady shouts and everyone is stepping on top of each other; but all I can hear is Mikey mutter "sure is a girl magnet."
