Lyster's story.
Chapter 1
Lyster dropped his jaw. And stared. He had a good reason to stare, too. What he was gazeing at. Who he was gazeing at.
Golden blond hair, deep blue aquatic eyes. High cheek bones on a thin, handsome face. Sitting upon the bar top, was Lyster's double.
Lyster was observing what seemed to be a battle of insults, between the man who was like him, and another, darker, fiercer man. As he watched, the battle began to get nasty.
"Hells teeth man, thou art worthy to be a kitchen skulleon! Not a prince!"
"So you may say sir, I could say the same for you! Thou art devil spourn and a whores son!"
"So that is what you say is it? I'll teach you to respect me!"
Then the dark man leapt upon Lyster's double's throat.
"Argh hell Thomas stop it!"
But the man was enranged. He clawed at the other's face chest and neck, totally over powering him. The victim was weaponless, and on a great impulse Lyster grabbed the attacker by the shouders, spinning him around, pushing him off the winded man's chest. It only took the other Lyster a minute to regain his breath, and pull the other man up by the colar.
"Please, my thrice gracious lord, forgive me!" The redl mist had obviously gone.
"Get you gone, filthy cur!"
The man scrambled away, and the other turned to Lyster, studying his face.
"I thank you friend, for have saved me from that unworthy dog"
"It is a pleasure, sir, to help another."
"I beg you tell me your name?"
"Lyster Monmouth sir? And may I ask the same of you?"
"You may, and I willingly tell you. For you have a right to know. I am Harry Monmouth, called Hal by some and prince by many. And I believe that we have met before."
"Aye my lord, that we have."
"Brothers." whispered the assembled company.
"It must be so."
It was true. It was well kown that the Prince's twin had been stolen just after birth by a maid.
And that was how Lyster came home.
Chapter 2
"I promise my thrice gracious lord, I shall hereafter be more myself."
"smack!"
Lyster winced as he watched his father strike Hal on the face and turn to face the throne. Hal closed his eyes and sighed and Lyster felt a little pity for him. It had been easy to get to know Hal's extraverial character, even from their chance meeting, and sudden realisation. It was easy enough to see why the king and his son fought. They were too alike, too stubborn. He fiddled absent mindedly with the empty scabbard on his belt, watching Hal's face intently. He watched as Hal turned on his heel and left the throne room. He watched his father sit down with his head in his hands. He watched everyone file out the room until they were alone.
"Father?"
"Yes my son."
"Can I help you with Hal?"
"I wouldn't make you do that Lyster. It would he the death of you, as it shall be of me."
"Permit me to say this sir, but I would like to sort this family arguement!"
